What would be your net profit from this run?

1900 miles for the round trip (includes deadhead)
Each run pays $1800 for a total of $3600 to the truck.
    Assume 6 mpg

I'm trying to figure out if this profitable enough to buy a truck and lease out to the compant. They said they would be interested in selling ms the company truck that I'm driving.

I'm not sure how much plates and insurance would be for me and a '04 379.

I'm making $1400 a week net as a company driver doing this twice a week.

Thanks in advance as I'm probably overlooking something :biggrin_25517:

I'm thinking it's more profitable for you as a company guy than it would be owning the truck. If it was a real profitable venture why would they be trying to sell the truck to you?

Stay a company driver IMO if you are making 1400 net after taxes.

What are you grossing 1900? If so do you think you can make a truck payment, pay for fuel, maintenance, tags (1600+ per year, 2290 is 550), physical damage (usually 4% of the trucks value per year 50k truck=2k per year), accountant, etc. for the remaining 1700 in the load? And that is saying they are giving you all 3600.
    6/1900 miles is 317 gallons @ $3.50=$1,110 per week
    truck payment guessing(hoping)$250 per week
    Plates and 2290 $41 week
Insurance $23 per week on 30k truck
Maintenance $250 per week at least until you build up a nice 15k escrow in YOUR savings account.
So 1110+250+250+41+23+250=1674 which is relatively break even to what make you make now until you consider your SS and medicare taxes will be double what they are now and you're responsible for that truck now. Pop in what the actual truck payment will be as well as the insurance, and keep in mind there are always other little taxes as well.

They're not trying to sell it. But they'll sell it if I wanted as the owners are getting close to retiring.

This truck needs a few things to make it comfortable. I'd really like this truck if I could make the needed repairs.

Actually I'm getting paid on 2800. They keep $400 off the top for each trip.

Between your post 1 & 5, I can't understand what you are saying.

How many miles per week? Is it 3800 miles?

How much money per week? Is it $7,200?

You say you make $1,400 a week net. I'm guessing that is gross. Gross is your check amount and net would be take home after taxes and employee deductions.

If you are making $1,400 net that is about $1,900 gross which is $98,800 per year. You better not do anything else if that is what you are making.

I can't come up with anything that makes sense from what I'm reading.

You are taking home $1400 on 3800 miles? And the runs pay $1800 on 1900 miles round trip? $1800/1900=.94 cents permile. I am guessing that if you net $1400 you are grossing about $1800. $1800/3800=.44 per mile. So what you are trying to tell us is they are running their truck for $.50 per mile?

    Revised as OP wasn't clear
    6/3800 miles is 634 gallons @ $3.50=$2,220 per week
truck payment guessing $250 per week
    Plates and 2290 $41 week
Insurance $23 per week on 30k truck
Maintenance $300 per week at least until you build up a nice 15k escrow in YOUR savings account.
    So 2220+250+41+23+300= 2,834
    7,200-2,834=4,366
The question is how much of that 7,200 will you actually get. Insurance, trailers etc cost money. Without accurate data it is hard to say, but it sounds profitable.
