So i been looking at DAT loadboards. I see many of the broker's have a checkmark symbol to see if they are a good or bad broker to do business with. What are the factors you use when looking for loads to decide whether or not you will haul for this or that broker to decide whether he pays or doesn't pay?
Also will your factoring company pay you if the broker doesn't?
I heard about apex being good, also i see quickpay advertised.
What credit score? I think the score goes to a 100 and most i see are in the 90's.
how often do broker's not pay you?

Broker only has 1 chance to not pay. I don't use again.
I started using brokers around the recession 2008. I've only not been paid by 2 brokers:
1 was $500
2nd was about $1000
I feel fortunate.
I've used Apex, they were good to/for me.
Seriously try not to factor. Get a line of credit if you can, it's a lot cheaper.
Factor companies don't accept total risk of none payments. Unless you have a "non-recourse" agreement. This cost 5% versus 1.5%-3%. read the details of any contract.
Good luck.autopaint, Midwest Trucker, PE_T and 2 others Thank this. -
so basically sump up enough money to cover the 30 days?
is that about the average time it takes for them to pay?
I know some pay fast without any factoring whatsoever.
Maybe get a little loan to cover the fuel and a months of costs. -
never in my 19 years of driving...

I would say 30 to 45 days is the average and avoid brokers with a low credit score.

Always read review. No rate or low rate is red flag.

I don't think I ever had a broker not pay me, some were pretty slow a time or too. Some of the lage brokerages will advance you fuel money once you are loaded and quick pay once empty. I wound up hauling enough for them to get money rolling in without factoring when I started. Factoring companies will charge you back if one doesn't pay, unless you rally pay them for your own money. If it is a non rcourse they will probably tell you which brokers you can and can't use.

The first time they dont pay me I don't do buisness with them ever again, unless I #### the bed and it's clearly my fault and I've only done that one once.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Only once in 15 yrs. Small Brokerage, I worked for regularly. Husband ran off with the bank. I convinced the wife, I needed fuel money to deliver Load. Luckily I got $900, advance, though I had already delivered. Had to fight fire with Fire. They filed bankruptcy, I later got a small amount, maybe. $100. Not bad, $800 lost on 1 Load, Out of 1770 loads over 15 yrs. I knew they were risky, at the time. So I wasn’t too surprised. I’m careful, having only 1 Truck. Non pymt really hurts.

Been running for going on 3 yrs and have had no issues. Chasing detention is the biggest headache but eventually gets paid .
