Wow...that's what I love about this site. Drove a nice 2000+- E7/427 w/ no jakes, but exhaust brake...very weak.
Most drivers ( and sup & owner ) amazed when I used my own grease gun every Friday to at least hit the front-end, the gates on the belly, and put oil in the air filter/lubricator, while they were haulin' petunias to cash their checks. Monday....I'm all kinda good.

It's just too easy to do it right.

How do I grease my truck, and what all do I need to buy? Been an owner for over a year and a half and been gradually learning how to do things myself to save a little money. Started doing my own fuel filter / water seperator changes, oil changes, redone my exhaust and new muffler. Put on all new led lighting on the truck. Done a few other things here and there. I saw the guy had a grease gun going around the truck, but never asked in depth questions. Thanks

I really hate to be a jerk...honestly. But how do you run any business...without everything possible about it?

However, to answer the OP's question. ..IMHO every couple of weeks.
    Amazing.

At a minimum you just need a grease gun that takes a full cartridge of grease and a rag. Crawl around and under the truck and put grease into any fitting that looks like this:

The end of the gun has a fitting that will kind of snap over the round nozzle looking part of the above. Get a gun with a rubber hose, not the solid steel pipe, as these fittings can be hard to get at.

Double the length of the hose too. Mine has a 30" hose and it makes life so much nicer.

Ok, thanks for the info everybody. Putting on a new surge tank today, so afterwards I'll go pickup some grease and a gun and get on it.

Well I figured there would be one. Always is, no matter what. But to answer your question, as I said, I've been gradually learning how to do things myself over the course of owning my truck. I didnt sit around and learn how to do mechanic work on the truck before i bought it. Usually just had it done when I had a PM done by somebody else, until I started changing my own oil and the other stuff. This is something I needed to learn. I have no shame in asking questions. No matter how stupid they seem to be to guys who have been doing it 20 years. Thanks for the insult

i think every owner op should get hands on with there truck. not only does it increase profits but also allows you to catch problems earlier and get to know your equipment better. the work i do is rough on equipment and if i didn't do my own repairs i probably would have been sunk a long time ago.

doing your own grease work is a great place to start. I had a background in automotive repair also some smaller powered equipment and was in charge of maintenance at a non trucking company before i started trucking so had the aptitude but was not familiar with big trucks at all till i started driving them.

then i was a company driver for a while and did some repairs here and there out on the road but the shop took care of most everything when i would come back for home time i dropped the truck off at the shop and went home and they took care of it

then i bought my own truck, started with small stuff grease ect. then other things would break i was on a pretty tight budget and under funded as it was so i took on some larger repairs i wasn't quite comfortable with but could not afford to put it in the shop took my time and after a few of them you realize its not much different than working on anything else just everything is bigger.

now i am to the point where i have my own shop space, and the only time my truck has been in someone elses shop in the last 2 years was for a couple on the road tire repairs that couldn't be limped home and a 3 axle alignment.

when you add up the cost savings on labor alone over a year its substantial, you have a better maintained truck and less down time by being able to do your repairs on your scheduled not the shops. as well as less down time by being more familiar with your truck and catching problems early.

greasing a truck is a great place to start. learn and get familiar with your truck. its cheap to do its not that hard. maybe a little dirty but your truck will thank you. most truck lube places miss a lot of zerks when they grease a truck to witch means not everything is getting lubed when it should.
