Where did all the people go that now no one can find any help? And this isn’t because of Covid either, help wanted signs have been everywhere for several years now.

Also, some places even fully staffed are notorious for long loading times. Now those same places cry about a worker shortage.

I've done that routine many times when I first got my authority and the brokers would accuse me of extortion. They would all try to get me very low in the detention rate too but if I didn't get my rate, I would leave.

I just left one the other day. It was a broker I've worked with many times too. I got comfortable and agreed to run it on their Accessorial Policy instead of my own IF he called the Shipper and got an appointment time for me to load to avoid wasting my time.

Well, I get there and there's like 4 trucks in front of me. I asked them how long of a wait and was told 5 hour minimum. I told them I couldn't wait that long, was told to be there at a particular time and if they weren't going to have me out of there in 2 hours or less then I would have to leave. They said, "see ya!" and off I went.

That was my most recent one a couple weeks ago but I've left many places over the years and I will continue to do so. My time is valuable. Respect it.

It's a respect thing for me too. Having O/O's wait that long is very disrespectful. Now if you didn't have to fight like hell to get detention pay AND detention was a reasonable rate per hr, not 20-40 per hr, I'd sit and wait. But it's always a struggle to get detention and I'm not some employee that thinks 20-40 per hr is good pay

Right. And everyone seems to think they're doing you some sort of favor. It's $100/hr minimum to book my equipment and driver. All my rates are built around that minimum number when I quote a run.

Their 30-40 dollar offers are a joke and I see them equally as insulting. You want me to sit for 5 hours? Fine but you're paying my minimum hourly rate after the first two. Otherwise, I'm leaving. These Shippers know it's cheaper in the long run to have a broker find them trucks instead of them actually having their own and paying all the expenses to run them.

This country needs trucks. One day some of these Carriers will get that through their heads.

Never have left but did tell one in NJ that got ignorant with me because I was 20 minutes late I was going to have to pay him overtime to load me .
I told him here's what it is really going to happen ....ill be out in my truck and you got 20 minutes to get me in a door and load me or I'm leaving and won't be back until Monday if I come back at all .
About an hour later I was loaded .

To add on to this it really depends on the rate neg at first. If it is a #### good load I will wait longer but only if the delivery can be made on time. That was the issue with the load I left. It was not gonna make it on time to appointment. It paid good at 3000 for 600 miles but delivery time was gonna be an issue and sure would have been stuck on it for two day. Not that good if gonna have to sit for a day.

Only once or twice in 20 years I can recall....first one...brokers fault really....appt only shipper and I roll in at noon with no appt and no idea one was needed. They told me they would get me at the end of the day and because that killed the do-ability of the trip I skipped out.

Second one I saw a massive line of trucks and waited about 1 hour and no one moved and no one was really doing much at all so I bounced.

I am not the type to sit unless I am forced because I am driving! LOL.
