How often do you move a $200-$300 load?

Nothing wrong with loads like that because you are getting several loads.

Most random short loads can take the better part of a day to go 20 miles. First you probably have to drive more that the loaded miles just to get to the pick up, then you wait around to get loaded, deliver the load, wait on them to piddle around unloading, and then drive many more miles back.

 

300 dollars loads are nice I can eat a big ol chili dog at the loves and use my points to pay. 330 on 187 miles is a great day

 

Schneider Intermodal, once paid for shagging their trailers from Cicero, IL to BNSF Hodgkins, IL $200 per deed. It was back in 2004. I thought that was a good deal (15-20 miles one way or so). I worked for an owner op and he did 50/50 with me. I did 10 that day and went home. I could have done more but my wife made me a dinner and it was Saturday so she wanted to go out. "You made enough already" she said. This I could actually repeat, why not.?

 

And that's a pretty solid deal. Quick little drop and hook action? Yeah, stacking them up like that is a great deal for you guys. Making $2000 in a day is a pretty good day.

 

That was over 13 years ago too. I wish, I had my own truck back then. Schneider made more of these gigs that year. I as a driver was making about $800- 1k a week on 1099 so it was just unbelievable money to make in just one day.

 

Yeah, something like that's about the only way I'd look at doing a $200 load on my end. If I could get a couple of reliable guys to grab like 10 a day, and I made $20-$40 on it, it'd add up nicely. But I won't screw with them if they're a little one off, one and done kinda thing.

 

Shhhh. Common sense doesn’t apply to most on here. Most would rather do Jersey to Cali and brag about how they get 6500 for 6 days of work.

I agree with you. Easy money on those short runs.

 

Years ago, there were loads going from Houston to Port Arthur,TX that paid $650 each for 98 miles. I thought, "Hey! 98 miles...I can get 3 of these a day!" They were soooooooooooooooooooooo slow. It was nothing at all to load, but it took a day and a half to 2 day to get unloaded. It's a bad feeling when you grab a quicky, run down the road and get to your destination and see all the guys that loaded 2 days ago still sitting there.

The shipper loaded 24/7 lightning fast. The receivers would fiddle fart around. I lost my arse that week.

 

Like I said. It's one thing getting roped in by some rascal of a broker off the open market selling empty promises to do one of these loads. All day long wait, wait, wait for $200-$300 woo hoo!! That versus doing a half dozen or more a day of these predictable easy on, easy off.

 

True, but @rollin coal knows his stuff. My operation is totally different than his. I was just saying that to show how it can work really well for one operation and make the next one go broke.

But yeah, there is definitely no shortage of folks who, when the Lord was handing out common sense, they though he said jump the fence, and took off....
