"Eastbound, they're doing road construction on the bridge. 5mile backup. Take the bypass around Lake Charles." The disturbing thing about it all was there were big electronic signs warning about how 1 lane was out on the bridge. There were very few cars in the backup. 99% trucks. "But Six, my company doesn't allow me to go out of route." Taking a loop around a city is not going out of route. There are so many of you that are stupid driving truck that no one wants to talk to you.
I estimate today, maybe 1 in 6 trucks does not even have a CB in the truck. Of the other 5 in 6 who has one, only some have it on much or most of the time. I try and keep mine on most of the time, but it doesn't take much jibber jabber or BS to get me to turn it off. I always try and turn it on while backing at a truck stop in case someone wants to help. But I note that very few today who are backing in truck stops has theirs on because most of the time when someone is trying to help [on the radio], there is no response.
My CB is aways on... But I'm lucky to get anyone over one mile on a good day. Most of time people are just trolling on it, like playing music through the CB and you do get the occasional "I ain't got no panties on" I also usually hear "What's going on?" when there's a backup... May be some can't get a signal only so far, but some I think just don't listen or read road signs (that's what a GPS is for right?)
OH they'll help... By getting out and taking a picture when you hit something. Tried parking at a Pilot in Georgia and the spot was a bit tight, thought I had room, since I was close to the other guy on my driver side (but not close enough to hit him) and my trailer scratched the other guys trailer. Then the guys went out to take pics and went back to their trucks.
I used one once for about a half hour. Got sick of everyone yelling about this and that. So I shut it off and haven't turned it on again. I think people who rely on CB's don't know how to use modern technology.
CB? You mean that paperweight that sits on my dash. Makes a good dust catcher. Not even hooked up anymore. One of these days I'll toss it in the trash. Maybe tommorow. Thinking of replacing it with a second scanner.
Au contraire...I'm somewhat of a techno-gadget geek (103 apps in my phone alone, and counting), but I recognize that a CB is part of that technology, and still serves a purpose. Just because there's a bunch of immature users out there isn't the fault of the tool. One of the base tower operators near me always announces he's on the air with the sound of a bong hit, then monopolizes the air within about 20 miles for the next couple hours. If a driver tries to cut in, Motormouth (that's what he goes by) proceeds to spend the next five minutes telling the driver "#### you!" repeatedly.
CB app works real good on smartphone...crystal clear... My CB fires up all loud and annoying once or twice a day...some dood 3 states over "can i get a radio check!! anybody hear this thing"...thats about it though...sounds like old white guy from the south, always...
Au contraire...103 apps on my phone and counting, much of my day spent on my computer at home, etc. I recognize that a CB is still a valuable tool, despite the fact that much of the time, most users have nothing better to do than insult other users: half the time it's like listening to old Beavis and Butthead dialog.
I use mine every day, all the time. When I load, when I unload, and to talk to other drivers that are running on the same job. It's always on, and rare is the time I'm not talking/listening. In fact, my am/fm radio hasn't been on in days, other than for weather reports when the tornadoes started dropping a couple miles away the other day. And the CB was still on the whole time.
