Two guys in my school were 60 years old and graduated. One, I think, was about 65, but he couldn't find his glasses to pass the physical and dropped out. Most others were between 35 and 45.

    moonshadow Thanks this.

Well, I have been in various sales positions (suit & tie) for about the last 20 years or so and now at the age of 43 have decided to completely change careers. Go to a private school if you can afford to. I got a Gov't grant that is paying for it thank God. Company schools are just as good from what I hear but then you are contracted to work for that company for X amount of time unless you want to reimburse them for your schooling! My schooling is costing close to $4,000 just to give you an idea. I have been looking into Crete Carriers only because of EVERTRUCKERR's threads! I thoroughly enjoyed reading them, I often felt as if I were there in the passenger seat experiencing it first hand! They apparently pay well and give decent milage. I looked into another company and they were only averaging 1,700 miles per week. My only potential issue with Crete is that my school may NOT be PTDI certified...Rut Ro! Which would mean I may have a harder time getting aboard with them. I think you will do fine. After being in my field for 20 years looking at the same old %#$# day after day the thought of the open road and new places is exciting! Good luck and keep us posted as to your success!

    Hey moonshadow and Jersey Trucker

I have been thinking about get'n into drivie'n also. I have been doing a little resreach here on this forum. I have talk with a few drivers, Swift, and Prime. I have called Schneider and was told they are only taking on inexperianced students for team driveing only. Fuel is going throught the roof. I believe things r slowing down and will slow down further. Unlike the past I don't believe fuel will come back to, even 60 a barrel. Recall last year when oil was $60 a barrel gas was $3.00 a gal. Here we r at $126.00 dollars a barrel and gas is only $3.50 a gal when it should be, by last years priceing, over $6.00 a gal. There are forces at work holding back the real price of gasoline. Why? Because $6.00 fuel would KILL the economy. I believe that trucking will shrink down drasticly, for example fishfoods will not be flown from places like Alaska or even Main. It may get bad enough that people will have to move out of rural area's and perhapes the suburb's back to cities.
It probably is not a very good I idea for a person with a job with the city to quit that secure job to go to work truck driving at this time.

Jersey, truck driving can be a job that is very very hard on u. The thought of the "open road and new places" may be a romantic thought rather than practical. What u see is the country through the window of a truck flying by mostly from an Interstate highway. Most of the interstate higways r very long long drive's over flat land. Of course u see truck stops. Let me offer up this exageration: When u fly over the country u see it from the window of an airplane. It would be a good idea to ask the typical drive on this forum about how exciting it is to drive.
