In regards to the doors being on magnetic locks for dispatch. In almost 30 years in trucking I've never seen that until then. Actually, where I'm currently at we do have scan cards usually on 'green' 80%' of the time they encourage drivers to be in the office. Those other dispatches just were #### people. It was so bad that a few drivers waited for one dispatcher with an 'attitude adjustment bar'. Back in the 90's those were popular for some reason especially with bad dispatches! :D

The orientation should be tuned into the personal experience of the driver, however not every company are going to have that kind of process, just like with driver training instead of recognizing their previous driving experience drivers are required to spend a ridiculous amount of money on getting issued with another CDL. If someone had previously worked for the company can't see why they'd have to spend another 15 days in orientation, and so yes 1 hour would seem on the spot for a previous worker, someone new to the company with no driving experience yes I'd say a few days, as their not learning how to drive, but rather just company policies and procedures which should not take that much time to learn. When I did my orientation, I believe it was at most only a few days to learn about all the paperwork and how things functioned. Can't see how an orientation would take 15 days to complete unless you only spent 1 hr per day.

Late 70's as a rookie dispatcher I wondered why there was a pick axe handle resting under the dispatch counter..........

Last two companies I worked for.

Last company maybe 45 minutes worth of paperwork and small talk. Move into truck then go.

Current company fill out some tax papers, move into truck, then hammer time.
