My only issue with riding the right lane is, it is more action packed than the middle lane (3 lanes). I've wondered if the word could be spread to all the truckers, how would it work if when on a 3 lane interstate, the #1 hammer lane remains for the cars. The #2 middle lane becomes the trucker's slow lane, 4 wheelers can do whatever they want, and the #3 lane becomes the trucker's fast lane (all traffic can use this lane of ingress / egress to the interstate). That this could be implemented quickly. No need for the friggin nerds with suits on who make up nonsensical laws to be involved.

It is for the same reason many drivers don't use the slow lane in cities. It is too action packed. You get in it, then cars are trying to get on the interstate and you move back out of that lane to give room. What if this same practice were tried on all 3 lane interstates. You need to pass a slower truck, you jump over in the former slow lane, far right lane, pass the other driver, get back in the middle. My thinking would be that driver's would spend a lot more time in the middle lane with no need to change lane. The number of lane changes would drop. Course I'm smart enough to realize there's probably problems with idea that I'm not smart enough to realize.

Sure, it creates cars flying up the far right hand lane, but they do that anyway. When I'm driving my 4 wheeler, I stay in whatever lane I'm in, until traffic requires me to change lane to sustain my speed. Except the far left lane. I jump in it, do my passing bidness and I jump back out of it when I'm done.

Last thing. If I'm creeping along at 60 mph, and a driver comes blowing me off the road him being at 77 mph, I never consider giving him any lip about it. His bidness. If anything, I hope him safe travels. I'm not doing this for the love of staring at the road for hours on end, or the enjoyment of rolling in to be unloaded and dealing with issues at the drop site and not getting unloaded. I'm doing it like all the rest of you, for the $'s. I roll slow "for a few dollars more."

Over the years, a number of government agencies have tested controlling what traffic is in what lane on the highway. When big trucks were moved all the way to the far left lane, traffic moved some what better in almost every situation. Mostly because the trucks were not stopping. Those that did have stops in the city, moved right when needed and made the exit.
One of the main advantages was consistent speeds. Slowing or stopping for merging went way down.

Very interesting. I could see how it would work, but the 4 wheelers would wreck it all.

I quit moving over for cars and trucks alike. If you can’t judge your speed and merge. Trucks I know can’t accelerate as fast as cars. I quit being courteous and or generally giving a ####.
Ones I hate are running along and want to play traffic cop and pull out in left lane and intentionally slow you down.

New school can’t be bothered to make the effort. Sadly old school is adopting that mentality. It’s nice once in awhile to see a new driver with old school mindset.

Depends actually if the driver had the room and or situation. I don’t expect anyone to move over for me. If oversize or short on-ramp I will but generally I have adopted the new generation attitude. Me first before all others.

I can understand jason's thinking. I don't think it's a matter of new/old school mindset, or even his courteousness. I mean this in regarding to 4 wheelers. When I'm 4 wheeling it, and headed down an on ramp, I'm only thinking of 2 things: 1) Get up to a speed that is approximately the same speed as interstate traffic, and 2) scan as early as I can so that I can time a merge that troubles no one. Especially trucks, as they cannot maneuver as easy as I can in my 4 wheeler.

The courteousness needs to come from the 4 wheeler, not the truck driver. It's not courteous to be scanning one's smartphone while heading down the on-ramp. It's not courteous to have you thumb up your arse doing 25 mph while trying to merge.

Drivers, there are some car drivers that have respect for what you're doing. They just don't get noticed like the dim-witts do.

As for trucks merging for trucks ... well yeah, givem room if possible. It's not easy to get 80k lbs up to 65 mph on an uphill ramp. That is courteous. I'm betting jason would give room in that regard where at all possible.

Don't drive in the far right lane and you don't have to worry about idiots merging into you. That lane should be used for those traveling just a few exits down the road. You only have to worry about those doing what I've heard called the ghetto sweep, just hurling themselves all the way to the left lane immediately because apparently they get a rash merging like a normal person.
