Hey there. Reading a lot about trucking before you get into trucking is an excellent idea. You're doing yourself a big favor there. If you can lift 50 lbs. you're not at a strength disadvantage at all IMO. You'll be fine.
There are several companies that will have you take strength/fitness test as a condition of employment. Get a milk crate or something similar with 50 lbs of stuff in it. Lift it from the floor to waist level. Take 10 paces forward carrying the crate. Turn and take 10 pacs back. Place the crate on the floor. Now lift the crate onto a waist high counter or table. Return it to the floor. If you can do this exercise 3 times in succession without passing out you pass the strength/fitness test. You're also in better shape than a substantial percentage of veteran drivers.

Nothing wrong with going to Canada. I did it, dedicated for a year. During that time I set myself up with easy and fast processes. If you're only going once in a blue moon, I can see where it wouldn't be fun because you wouldn't be real familiar with the process of crossing into Canada and then back into the U.S.
