Patty, there are drivers like that. I had a female driver out of Michigan. She was very strict like that. Me and her were very well together because I understood her, and I wouldn't want her to risk her or anyone person's life over a phone call. When I had a broker ask for her information and I never allowed it. I told them the truth, and I will keep them updated. She always kept me updated at her comfort zone when she fueled/rested/ate and so on. However she was an amazing driver, and I loved her work ethic, and how real she would be about her schedule. For her I went out my way to make sure she went to weddings, and so on that she requested. But I also had drivers where I give the broker their number, and only thing I would get is "Yo man I'm empty! I got blah blah hours left, I need to be home by blah blah, I wanna make money"... and that's it. Some brokers need to know, and so do some direct customers. But as a carrier, or a dispatch you need to know your drivers. If you can't get to know them, as far as how they run, you shouldn't have them.

I always got along with dispatchers and brokers if working with the same broker.they knew how I ran and never had to worry about late loads.

Had was broker loads no Qualcomm so I would call broker a couple times a day and call my company every morning leave voicemail what time it is and where I'm at..while sitting in the dock I would call Judy for the brokers number to the next load. Call broker after I'm mt and off customers property.

The way I see it is, if you're going thru a broker it is because of 1 of 2 options. The first is that the broker called you about the load because they have a good history with you (on time, check-ins,, dependable equipment, and professionalism).
The second is that you placed a call to a broker on an advertised load and are on this load because YOU called the broker and asked for it. Sure, you negotiated the rate but you asked for the load. This being said, I have no problem with check-in calls (especially when this is a first time load with the agency). As far as dealing with a broker "that is not a people person", you should be able to tell that as soon as speak to them on the phone and then the decision is yours as to whether to proceed or not. It's just a matter of using common sense and courtesy.

Eastern euro carriers get the cheap rates since they put 3-4 in a truck. I get team service for virtually nothing!!

Here is the problem I ran into.
I called and got the load. Broker ask me what time I can pick it up.
I said I don't know, I got a delivery in the morning and I'm not sure how many trucks are in front of me.
I'm going to take a guess at 12.

I showed up at 215. Broker cancels the load right as I get there, but I pick it up away.

Come to find out, the shipper is 24 hour shipping and I didn't need an appointment.

    PLS Broker

Baxter and Bailey had them on a collections.
Steel Dynamic let them go as a broker.
I've had a few bad hauls with them, but it was from bad shippers

#1 a dispatcher should never give the drivers # out unless he really needs the load at the time and they ask for it, if you dispatch yourself then your screwed, the tricky part is if the guys a dick be very careful I have gotten $400 deductions for picking up early and making it before the deadline. This industry is filled with scavengers that think they can act how they want and say what they want when they want. There are couple of ways to treat their life, but then they can write reports on you and your gonna lose anyway cause it will be harder to get loads from other people later. I usually just tell the guys that get out of hand to let me speak to their boss and refuse to talk to anyone else but them, usually takes a while and a lot of hang ups on them til I actually get a boss. If they start talking about non-payment try to record the conversation and refuse delivery til you get paid or receive a updated rate con with time and dates changed if your late, usually then a boss will get on the phone and you can play the recording for him. A lot of these guys out here think they are bad ##### but 99% of them would get their teeth kicked in if they spoke to you like that face to face.
