How to deal with a driver facing camera?

Doesnt matter if it "only records during hard braking". Of course they're not going to tell you that they record every move. The same as the NSA or FBI only records certain phone calls and reads certain emails. Snowden blew the lid on that one. If they have cameras, they're going to use them to make sure you're towing the company line. If your seen or heard doing things against that line, they will find a way to get rid of you without saying it's because of something they heard or saw in that camera.

 

Or don't work for them. I've learned that these cameras are wired to go directly to the office. They are on all day. They save when there is an incident. The company can look at you all day long. You really want that? I sure don't. There's a few threads talking about these. Look them up. If you are not wearing a seat belt, drop a smoke, get something from your cooler/fridge, look at a girl too long, they see it and will "talk" to you about it. And the ###### things are on when you are parked as well. Any conversation you may have that can be construed as talking bad about the company or having a drink or whatever can be used against you.

 

Myself I would'nt do it... Just go to hollywood instead......Do they pay by the mile there?

To my way of thinking, the possibility they will impose fault on the carrier is as good as the possibility in exonerating the carrier. Regardless, if the truck is equipped with company video recorders, they can/will be subpoenaed. So maybe they help the carrier, maybe they hurt the carrier, but they wouldn't hurt if they didn't exist. So, I guess they're gambling that they are selective enough in their hiring process and/or if they create enough "fear" in drivers, that they can stop a lot of distracted driving incidents by stopping a lot of distracted actions.

They could be used in the event of a backing accident ... did the driver GOAL any? ... enough? Just remember what I said in my earlier post, the way these things work, they MUST record all the time (at least when the brakes are released) in order that the moments before and leading up to an accident or hard braking event can be saved. The only question is how long is the "non-event" video saved before it is cycled out and who can access it?

I'm sure they will have a means of detecting and reporting when the camera is taped over (probably via qualcomm) and this action would be grounds for termination.

 

As soon as they told you they use a driver facing camera you should of hung up the phone and moved on..Or if you do hire on..thanks for lowering the standards of drivers.

In all honesty, I don't know what im going to do. Im a pretty picky guy and like a lot of home time but in all honesty.. I don't think its going to come out with me going. I think im just going to take the other job offer I have. Wish I could just stay where I've been at for the last year but I don't have the money to buy the company.. Lol. It just sucks because I really like the run/pay/home time/ benefits. Oh well, maybe one day we can get all this bs lined out and companies will get the hint, we refuse to be watched 24/7.

 

I'm not too concerned about drivers who might quit over the camera's because I'll have someone else in that truck the very next day. We got about 400 trucks right now and we're always getting about 20 new guys in every week so if they don't want to play ball then it doesn't really matter to us.

 

Your company sounds like a real winner! I guess even smaller companies could care less about driver retention. I bet you would keep a lot more drivers, If the drivers felt like you trusted them. That's what recording to me, feels like, distrust.
