When you get a chance swing by the house, pick up the dog and break up with the gf.

Really good advice so far. Just take it 1 step at a time and concentrate on that. It'll take some getting used to being away from home.

I never did OTR but I used to stay out of town a month at a rip in the oilfield. That 1st week is the hardest but after that it gets a whole lot easier. Keep your head up

Some companies don't have a weight limit on dogs.
Wilson Logistics is one; can take passenger and two dogs/no weight limit or breed restriction.

You'll end up developing a lot of emotional and mental toughness. It gets tough sometimes, but time will heal everything. At least you came here to talk to some of us. Any of us can help you through it. I don't even mind chatting it up with you once I park at night. Being away from home though, I liken it to alcohol....you have to keep doing it. It builds up a tolerance of being gone. You have to remember, you'll make it back. Once you get out on the road, the passing of the miles will make that time fly. At least you're starting in an era where you have video chat and such to stay close. Utilize it as much as possible. Let your girl know how much you love and miss her, but at the same time, start looking for the good things about trucking. Start another thread on here and share your journey. I think that may help.

The reality is the GF will likely have someone else “mowing the lawn” after a couple of weeks anyway. Lol
