I will definitely come back and report the real problem. I think @Cat sdp has the correct answer. One wheel has been locking up real bad and that's the one I've been trying to disable. I went to two places and neither one could get the pin out of the clevis. They tried a hammer then a 5lb hammer then another shop tried heating it up and used an air driven hammer tool and it would not budge at all.

Finally in Colby, KS at 2am I went into the Petro shop. Just a guy who is only qualified to change tires and nothing else. Nice guy. He tries and no luck. At this point I tell him to get the torch and cut that Y connection to the slack adjuster so he does. Then we realize that won't work since the cut off rod will still push on the slack adjuster so he cut a big chunk out of the rod. Now it's REALLY disabled.

So, on my way thinking the problem is solved until I start having a problem with another wheel but not as bad. With the help of someone else we push the brake pedal in then out and they don't return for a long time. Then we leave the trailer brakes released and make sure they are all released. Then we release the tractor brake and that causes some of the trailer brakes to be deployed.

I'm guessing all the wheels are locking up but nowhere near as much as that one I had disabled.

I won't go into details but all those other shops want to start replacing parts and make no sense at all from a logical point of view.

So, I think @Cat sdp has the answer. Since this is a Great Dane trailer I think I'm going to have to either find one or take a load home and have my mechanic fix it. Dead heading on flat ground I was getting at best 5mpg. At least now I'm back to 7

I will report back when fixed and how though.

Looks centered and either does not move at all or not much.

Whoa. That shouldn't be happening. With your red button pushed in, (which supplies air to the trailer) stick a block in front and behind a wheel, release your tractor brakes, then pull your glad hand off the service side (blue, passenger side). There should not be any air applied down that line. Sounds to me like there might be? If not, then I will shut up and leave this one to the experts :)

I was thinking of a way to back off your slack adjuster with pressure applied by the brake chamber. May be you can use a winch strap or a chain binder to relieve enough pressure to remove the pin and back off slack adjuster.
Reading your last post it appears you have a problem that I am not qualified to help with. Please let us know what the problem was when you get it fixed. Thanks and Good luck.

Not familiar with a trailer but have a 359 Pete. When I got it the brakes took a while to release. The problem was the relay valve. I can stick a rod thru the clevis and apply brakes. If no dust covers can check for broken return springs etc.

I had a can go bad on my truck. Mechanic in our shop told me to pull the airline off and put a dime on the fitting and then put the hose back on. Then you cage the can to release the parking brake. Don't see why it would not work on the service side of the can also.

I have always carried a cage bolt and a few brake lining rivets in my tool box. Take the air line off at the brake can, put a rivet in the fitting & re-attach, it's disabled & invisible.

I agree that your problem could well be a relay/quick release valve.
