If you are inspected and the low air alarm is non-functional, you'll be cited and placed OOS. I think that is what was meant by the "DOT will have a field day" comment.
Best course of action is to find the source of the air leak and fix it. It will have to be done eventually anyway, because air leaks typically don't fix themselves. If anything, they get worse and/or multiply, until you reach the point where the air loss rate exceeds the allowable limit which will also put you OOS.
Fix the leak.Grubby and Straight Stacks Thank this. -
Did you put plumbers tape around the threads? Fix the air leak..... if it gets worse and you find yourself without air how will you stop???????

If he runs out of air, the trucks emergency spring brakes will come on. His problem will be that he can't go if he has no air. The trailer brakes will lock up if he is empty while he is going 60 mph, and there will be lots of smoke!Grubby and chopper103in Thank this.

The low air buzzer usually won't come on with the key in off position or out of the ignition.
Most APUs are setup to not run if they key is in on position.
Will your APU not run with key in off position?
You should get your air leak fixed and under no circumstances should you disable the low air buzzer/alarm.Bladshel, Tonythetruckerdude and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
is the leak in the tractor or trailer, if its in the trailer pop both knobs

The apu work weather key is in on, acc, or key out of switch. I turn the battery powered apu on without "auto start stop" enganged (means once the batteries get too drained the truck starts it self to charge batteries) i just figured out if the auto start stop button is on, it turns on the radio and the air gauges activate, if the button is off, the radio turns off as well as the gauges. I reckon ill just have to leave the button off and hope for at least an 8 hour charge.

Prostars bleed off air quick, I never used the Auto Start because of that beeping.
Unless the low voltage cutoff occurred, then I'd let the truck run on auto start.... wmt -
does not sound like they have the apu wired properly to the tractor
