I’m with Tripac Dude. I have that miserable system on my 2019 Volvo 760. It constantly beeps even when I’m a good distance from a car or when a car cuts in front of me. The system is connected to my truck stereo system and it cuts my satellite radio off all the time. It’s really miserable in traffic. Yesterday, I was a good distance from a car and it was beeping away when a semi got in between us. And it stopped beeping. It doesn’t seem to recognize trucks. I’ve been with this company for 26 years and I’ve never ran into a truck or car and now I have to listen to this piece of crap.
How to disable the stupid on guard system

Start with it in the on position turn off on quickly , some trucks its twice.
Mine once and you can set the cruise.
If you use the brake to disengage, it will reset without repeating the on / off / on step. -
Start with the cruise in the on position?
Or the Onguard?
Disable the cruise with the brake?
If you could expand a little I would be grateful.
Ok, so why did I say 'no it won't'?
I drove a Prostar for Crete for 2 years with Onguard. I hated it.
I was open minded at the beginning but grew to despise it.
In snow and ice the plate at the front becomes covered in ice and then the display shows red and kills your cruise control. I would have to stop, go and rub it clean until the next time. It would also get splashed with RF especially going under a bridge and kill the cruise or even slam on the brakes.
In my experience some of the most ingenius guys I have met have been company drivers. If there is a way around something by pushing buttons they seem to be on it. Learned several things over the years by someone clueing me in.
Having said all that this situation is vital to me at this moment. I have laid a deposit on a Cascadia and it has this #### Onguard. I thought it would be easy to disable but today I have spoken to service at Schneider in Gary Indiana and to Freightliner here in Tupelo, MS.
It is tricky.
Theoretically you disable it with propriety software and then pull the components.
The head FL guy just told me that by unplugging the head unit it will kill it and everything should work normally.
He was 100% sure and said he had done it many times in the past. The problem is as has been mentioned in this thread is that for liability reasons they don't like doing it. He also didn't argue about it being not a safety device but positively dangerous.
Little confused over here. All I know is I don't like Onguard. -
Ok so here we go.
Click the steering wheel cruise button so it's on.
Now turn it off then on quickly( double tap)
This should allow you to actually set the cruise.
I have read that some trucks require you to double tap twice for this to work. On all three of mine it's been once.
Now if you shut the cruise of by tapping the brake you'll ( should) be able to just hit the set button again and set the cruise.
If you use the button to turn off the cruise or turn off the truck you'll have start all over with the on/ off step.
Matter of fact I think just stopping and setting the brakes will cause you to have start all over, -
By the way , yes its actually 3 taps.
Once to put it in the position.
Then double tap. Off / on. -

I got trapped by a 4 year old thread.
