Sorry to hear all your bad experiences. I really like the system on the used 2012 International my work purchased. I only have about a thousand miles with it so far so I'm just getting used to it. Mine does not apply brakes when the cruise is off. Just the alert if following too close. Pretty sure I scrolled past a volume option so couldn't you just turn it way down if the beeping annoys you? I usually have the radio on and my window is down a lot so it's just another noise in a already noisey envirement to me. I use the cruise a lot mainly to keep from speeding. I use it as much at 35 mph as I do at 70mph and so far so good
How to disable the stupid on guard system

The worst experience I've had with it so far has been when the guy I was following jumped on his brakes while exiting off a freeway. Not sure if they decided last second to exit or what but the truck did apply the brakes pretty hard but no skids. This was at 70 mph and I don't think I ever got inside of 200 feet of the car. Think 70 mph keeps you at least 330 or so feet behind whatever your following. At 55 with the cruise off the alert sounds at around 120 feet I think.

My question is since its applying the brakes its activating the brake lights also right??? It must.

Just disable it.. it will make u wreck in winter

Just had this conversation with a friend. Way back in high school drivers Ed they warned us not to use cruise in the winter. Personally I've never had cruise put my car in a skid even on black ice but I guess I could see it happening easily if it's jacking the brakes on 45 ton vehicle.

It will slam on the brakes with cruise off also..that's how it works..

Got to love company rides. Good luck tampering with the safety equipment.
Best suggestion change to a company that doesn't offer safety system in bumper.LeeJackson Thanks this. -
Not the system on the truck I'm currently driving. I've been as close as 75 feet going 55-60 mph with the cruise off in heavy traffic. Very unsafe and it's not a habit of mine but just saying I've done recently and system did not activate the brakes. Traffic was flowing evenly at that time. Was just in horrible stop and go 3 mph to 20 mph traffic for 15 miles and probly well inside of 20 feet at times. Must be a speed it starts because I can't remember it beeping a ton in the traffic jam.
