Thats how I grind my gears, just like you stated >conditions etc.
O/O student driver here with a freight liner Columbia 10 speed I grind the gears sometimes ,lite grinding noise sometimes loud, I hope I'm explaining this clearly. I rev it up too 18 and it goes smoothly in and sometimes it doesn't, and it's same conditions , I catch my self going into gear to quickly and you hear that grinding noise it's frustrating sometimes ..when I down shift I pull it out at 1200 rev it too 2200 then Wait for it to go 1800 and it goes in sweet! But then your fully loaded 48k, Im flatbedding it's scary, and it's totally a different game then. I just hope I don't ruin my trans from grinding , I noticed I'm getting better with more practice , I just hope no damage will happen

Davezilla have driven close to around 6 1/2 million miles and never had to replace a trans. at any time on any of the trucks i owned, notice the word owned. running it up tight against the rpm and ramming it into the next gear is not a very good way to drive a truck, it makes know difference what speed you are going.

If you destroy an input shaft from floating you're a ####ing retard and need to stop ramming the gears with 40 pounds of pressure

Old post but for future reference to anyone, if someone teaches you to shift by the speedometer it's a half ### cop out on training and you should leave that company
