I have a S corp in California and I’m leased to motor carrier from Illinois. Can I open my IFTA license in CA even I don’t have my MC# and file IFTA report myself? Which one ifta sticker to put on truck, mine or from motor carrier?
Owner Operators that are leased with a carrier operates under that carrier’s IFTA agreement. In this case the carrier is responsible for the filing of the IFTA
I think you just misunderstood. Carrier need fuel and mileage report for your truck by states to fill IFTA
Your elog should be able to maintain your mileage for IFTA depending on what system you have. I seen some systems that advertise IFTA reporting
You can run your own IRP registration and your own IFTA while leased on to a Carrier. You'll have to contact your local IRP office with a copy of your lease. They'll get you set up.
Mos states will allow you to run and file your own IFTA and have your own IRP account even thou you are leased unto a carrier and don't run your own numbers. They used to give you a DOT number for ID purpose, but now, in TN, they just give you a ID number, not a true DOT number. I did it for about 4 years that way. I also believe you can get IFTA in any state you want and also IRP, just don't quote me on that. When you apply for IFTA they will ask you how many stickers you want.
I have apportioned plates with all states listed on my cab card, does that means that I already have IRP account? And also I have DOT#. So if that is a case I only need ifta license to file ifta myself. How about for KY, NM, NY, OR? Am I supposed to file those reports also if I am doing ifta myself or those are responsibilities of motor carrier?
