what kind of trailer are planning on running?
Rich_Trucking Thanks this. -
I live in seattle and the company I think I will go with runs only dry....there are a few companies that offer reefer, but I guess the loads are about 2-3 hours away in Yakima where all the orchards are..
My main concern right now is to get with a decent company, learn as much as I can, and eventually start my own dispatch service.
I've kind of got a competitive edge in my demographic...I am from India and there are a lot of new guys coming up looking for trucks to drive and companies to work for. It sounds kinda f'd up, but these guys only work with other indian guys...and the guys that have their dispatch services out here are really screwing these guys over. Not paying them ontime, not paying at all, giving them really low rates.
I really want to tap into that market and be real with these guys. A lot of these guys don't speak much english and thats why they get screwed.dancecanyon, Rich_Trucking, bruceb and 1 other person Thank this. -
well with that dry van is gonna be rough in that area you have all of the mega's over their between portland and seattle
i see you ambition but honestly reefer is better for the area yes you do have to go to Wenatchee or Yakima and all the little towns in between with the hugh farms but you will do better that way
as for not speaking english well then they should learn i know DOT does not enforce it but it is a requirement to drive a truckRich_Trucking and jess-juju Thank this. -

...I also started in this business w/ zero experience...as an O/O w/my own authority....
...it can be done..because I did it...not knowing hardly anything about the business.....
...Many had told me "your going to fail, don't say we didn't say so"....
...Well it has been over three years now...and I'm burnin' diesel..
with my own authority........AND FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION...
...It does take time, and many contacts to learn different lanes..depending what freight you decide to haul....
....if your persistent, a intelligent manager...it doesn't matter what business you manage..you will succeed...
Many O/O's are truck drivers first...managing a trucking business.....
instead of thinking like managing a trucking business, then being a truck driver...

You hang on in there and stay positive, remember Werner started out with one truck. This forum is for truckers to ask questions and not to be told negative crap. I'm right behind you (getting my truck soon) and you are asking the right questions. I hope someone will give you a positive answer.

Hello everybody!
I am leased to a company as an O/O. I am very new to this site, but I have been a driver for almost 8 years. I really want to become independent and have the wife and myself find loads for us.
I want to buy another truck soon, it will be a two truck operation, I have not bought a trailer yet, I am still debating on a flatbed reefer or dryvan and I don't know what will be most profitable for me
I am located in Northern CA, and want to do long haul. Any help/ advice will be much appretiated.
Thanks in advance.
