Was coming down Hwy 58 Westbound just out of the snow zone pulling a curtain van many years ago and I come around a corner and this nice buck deer standing on a rise about level with my cab. I went by it and happened to look in my right mirror and saw it leap right into the side of my curtain. It bounced off and landed almost upright on its hooves. A few scratches on my curtain was all the evidence I found after I found a place to stop. Amazing encounter!

Wow people here are against using your brakes? I'm kinda lost as to why. Load shift means the load wasn't secured properly. Rear ended means they weren't paying attention and or following too close. I'm at a loss here.
The other thing I forgot to mention. There's almost always more than one. Don't get fixated. -
I finally had an opportunity to test your method the other night.
I swerved several times but that sumbatch got away...
... next time I'm going to lead it nice and proper, the way I learned to shoot. -

so what if the 4 wheeler hits you in the rear as you are braking to avoid whatever? that is not your concern as the 4 wheeler was obviously following much too closely. your driving concern is with what is in front of you,not behind you.besides,if anything, whether another big truck or a car,is riding that close to me,i will be easing onto the shoulder and accidentally throwing loose stone and gravel up or i will be slowing down so much that whomever will pass me.
