Just give them a light coating of oil or wd40. Not dripping wet but enough just to give them some protection.

You can think of an antenna as something that produces alternating current. It also relies on what it's mounted to to make it more effective. What it's mounted to is also part of the antenna half of the time, so you can add bonding straps to unify the things it's mounted to. You "bond" the doors to the cab so they appear as one thing. Maybe the cab to the frame, and maybe the frame to the exhaust. All of that is part of the "antenna system" in a sense. It does help receive, but it is also the precipice of going down a rabbit hole.

Older trucks didn't really need it as much as they didn't have powder coated mirror brackets (mostly).
