Not a trucker story - lived in central Wyoming (Lander) for 3 years after being stationed in Cheyenne. In June 1993, I bought a new Harley Springer Softtail... set up to ride the weekend of July 7th-8th with the wife and some friends of ours who also rode Harleys.

We were going to leave that Saturday around noon, ride to Rock Springs, then up through Pinedale to Jackson Hole, spend the night, sleep in, and roll back home Sunday.

I was a fleet manager at a dealership then, and had to finish some bids to get them faxed off... went in arounf 8, and around 10 am, my wife called, and told me to look outside. I hadn't paid ANY attention to weather, since it was JULY... and the temps had dropped from the mid 60s to the mid 30s.... and it was snowing. We lived at 6500 ft.

The joke went on for a while.... "they " scheduled summer for July 7th here in Lander, but it snowed that day.

    Mastertech Thanks this.

No one showed me how to put chains on or take them off. I'd put them cars and pick ups, thats all I knew when I first started. I learned by watching other drivers on the road.

Driving through WY in July a few years ago in a 62mph flatbed and it started Sn0wInG & blowing. Soon trucks were flopping over in the meridian FedX was jacknifed on a off ramp and turned into a complete #### show. After awhile the Interstate was empty and CB saying road closed past Cheyenne. Truckstops were full, rest areas were plugged and you couldn't even get off the Interstate cause all the BTO's had crashed on the ramps. Soon the sun came out and the wind died and the 62 mph flatbed keep on trucking...........

Pssssst hey driver. Put them on before you hit the mud and take your tennis shoes off.:biggrin_25512: Sometimes when your stuck your stuck. Rule # 6-If ya going to get stuck do it in the middle of the road. That way no one can get around you till they help you.

I hear ya. I ran a Canadian built Western star w/ all the bells and whistles, sweet truck. Sounded like a jet taking off.:yes2557: 3408 CAT! Yeah that truck would go to town. Even double chained the drivers and steer axle.. Rule #2-Don't wear a seat belt and don't lock the doors, you might have to bail.

WOW and I though you just laid them out drive on them and clip them and you have to have a wrench to tighten up the cams. I had a guy try to give me a set a couple weeks ago
