That's kinda dumb . Aren't you supposed to have the other team member that isn't driving logging sleeper time to get maximum hours ? It might be interesting to match Swift drivers' logs with Qualcomms and see how often the Qualcomm is used while one is logging driving and the other is logging sleeper berth .
How to read Qualcom while moving?

Perfect excuse.......... cord reaches into the sleeper.
-
You can always find a hill, and turn the key off, while you coast.
That's what an idiot I know does. -
Yup, and mine tends to stay in the sleeper (won't wake me up if I have the curtains drawn). Since I can't use it while I'm moving, most of the time there isn't a point to having it up front unless I'm doing arrival/depart etc. I rarely use it for directions as I write them down when trip planning and run the same route through the gps.
If you are a team driver or mentor, policy is that you do have to be on line 4 (on duty-not driving) if you are in the jump seat (not that anyone around here has ever sat there while on line 2 (sleeper)
) Anywho, like Brick said, the cord reaches pretty far.

i disagree. i drive for werner and the red light only comes on for important messages. That capability may be different from company to company.

Qualcomm uses a ignition sense pair of wire (color omited intentionally, I wont assist with your needless death or maybe the death of others) to go to the truck, However most companies will fire you for messing with the qualcomm. If you put a doublepole switch in them you could read this going down the road. The computer in dispatch is going to show it as a error, also it will show you going from 55-60 to 0 instantly then back to 55-60. Bad Idea. Also it is disabled it is simply not safe to be messing with the qualcomm while going down the road. ACCIDENTS is why your company has disabled them, to keep you safe long enough to learn how to operate safely. Safety yeah, its a big deal, maybe the only deal that matters. Maybe if you contact Qualcomm to see if they would be willing to send you out the tech manual, I mean since they actually own the unit your going to tamper with.

I agree. But the qualcomm keeps beeping and they want to get an answer. Then everytime the truck stops, they want the log book to match it. You can't just pull on the shoulder or the ramp, because it is not safe and all.
-
California Freeway stopping is emergency only, and I am quite sure they would right a nice 185.00 ticket for stopping on the shoulder. However a piece of well placed duct-tape will get rid of the beep, or at least tone it down.
-
I called my dispatcher and told him I would check the qualcomm the next time I stopped. He asked when it would be and I told him about 3 more hours. He demanded it be answered. You see where it goes. -
Nah I was solo and I could read, type, an send messages on mine while rolling. Dont ask me how I know cause I wouldnt do that......................................... Company im with now though you can read the top part of the message or load dispatch while rolling you just cant scroll down or do anything else on it. But the one in my truck now is called aether.
