It will take a bit if practice to feel the sweet spot. Those older Freightliners and Internationals with the small motors do not respond like a class 8 truck. 1700-2300 rpm is their usual range.

Yeah the older trucks when I started out, you revved them up higher then the new motors. Just
loved COE's (NOT!) that were popular back then.

I just started working for coke and yesterday was my first day driving and I had no idea they drove 7 speeds I thought all thought all their trucks would've been 10 speeds or autos....I noticed what I learned in school that 2+5=7 3+5=8 doesn't work on this truck I also noticed when I upshift it have to be around 1800rpms but downshifting I am completely lost I'm just really getting lucky I.e. The 7 speed trucks for used for local they have a Synchronize synchronized Clutch so you don’t have to double clutch. You drive it like a small car or truck. You press the clutch all the way in every time. when downshifting no need to rev the engine just push clutch in and bring it down a gear. This is for a 7 speed transmission with no splitters.
