With all these grand and rather obtuse answers, the right one is this.
The manual has everything in it that you need to pass the written tests, the manual questions at the back of the chapters are SAMPLE questions and may not be even close to those on the test or just represent the information you may need to know. Don't skip around but read straight through each chapter, even if you are not taking the test for that endorsement.
there is no memorizing questions unless you went to a cdl mill type school who administers the test too. This isn't an FCC or another test where they have a pool of questions they pick form, each state and in some cases each tester can have it's own questions - some make no sense at all until you understand the material.
We don't need stupid truck drivers on the road, we've got enough of them already so there is a reason why the manuals are easy to understand, should be read all the way through and tests are easy to pass.
By the way masters degrees are meaningless in trucking.

Shaggy Thanks this.

Good one GPS . I like the answer you gave this guy. I am an immigrant myself with HS diploma. Studied for 12 hours the manual, took the test on line, went to DMV, got all endorsment at once. Then went to Chatanooga and got TWIC card. Thanks to the info here on the Forum. ( Thank you Chinatown). It all took place last September. Just sold my house now and I am ready to hit the road. Will do a refresher though. Will go tanker with Schneider if I meet their requirements at the orientation. Praying to God.
Tanker is all I want to do. -
Good job Ridgeline. I love it.

Gee Ridgeline you should teach a class on how to answer questions. LOL

Stroked my own ego?
Really?
You don't know how these sites work, do you?
OK so you used practice tests to pass the test instead of actually learning about the concepts and info needed to actually pass the test - bfd.
You may have had luck with that, but not all states use the same tests nor does all practice sites use the same data. Not everyone will have that luck. It isn't like the feds exams for say a radio license or some other thing where there is a large pool of questions, it doesn't exist for CDL testing.
Last year I took my hazmat renewal test. I did the practice tests and NOT one question from the practice test was on the state's exam. I still got zero wrong, I knew the material and remember the questions on the practice tests so passing wasn't an issue for me. NOT one practice question on the hazmat test which makes me wonder if someone would have the same questions word for word, they would be clueless to know how to properly transport hazmat material.
I added back my tanker endorsement after dropping it a bunch of years back, again took the practice tests and took the state's exam later in the day - not one question matched.
The same goes for the doubles/triple, passenger and school bus endorsements I added. Only one question from the doubles/triples practice test was on the actual state exam.
The problem is the tests are too easy, when anyone can just take a practice test a few times and then expect to pass it, IT is time for a change. I would rather have someone take the time to read the book, learn the stuff so they can apply it to different situation than to have another clueless driver on the road.gpsman, Tonythetruckerdude and Shaggy Thank this. -
That's okay buddy but now you are backpeddling. First tests arent designed to be gamed this way next you suggest i was correct but the whole system needs to be revamped.

I guess what i am trying to say is pick your stance and i will either agree with you or argue against it. But what i cant do is work with someone who changes his mind as often as my girl changes her panties. -
Android app - cdl study buddy is very close to real thing. If you have a android phone that is. Test-guide. Com cdl practice test is good also. Use these as a study guide. If you don't know the answer of question don't guess look it up in manual and highlight it. This will help you remember the right answer. Guessing just confuses you with the right and wrong answers.
In Georgia for people that have reading comprehension problems they will read the CDL test to you. You may have to schedule a time for the oral cdl test. -
The written test has little impact in the real world. Learn how to shift the 10 speed without the clutch. Watch your road signs carefully. Learn exactly how to keep the paper logbook. Log all pre trip inspections. Don't go over your 12 hours of driving time or 16 on duty. Learn how to properly drive thru a scale house and follow the instructions/lights when you hit the scales. Learn how to slide your tandems perfectly so you don't have to move product around with your bare hands if they bust you at the scale. Keep the CB radio off, and drive with the knowledge that idiots will cut in front of you and then immediately brake down to 45 mph, putting you in a panic. Watch traffic as the cars merge on the freeway, and keep your back trailer tire as close to the white line on your right.
