Here's another oilpatch trucker to show you how it's done.

I don't think engaging the inter-axle lock does any harm. On my tri-drive it certainly smooths out the ride. I do a lot of off road driving. I wouldn't recommend leaving the inter axle locked up if there is not much snow and you are on pavement.
Singles can dig into soft ground leaving your inner wheels spinning on the top of the snow. Every time I've gotten into trouble with chains, it has been for this reason. Again, this is an off road problem. Singles should be fine for highway driving, especially if you chain both drives.
Not sure what you don' t understand re #3. jacking up? It's easier to install chains if the wheel is off the ground. But can you be bothered jacking up the wheels? I know I can't.
Hope this clarifies things a bit. -
I was going to suggest you take a look at Prairieboys video. I see he just replayed it. It is really worth taking a look at. The cam tool is just a bent piece of steel with one end flattened. You insert it into the hole on the cam to give you leverage to turn, and therefore, tighten it. I think the video shows it.Last edited: Dec 13, 2010

Missed one, sorry. Some drivers use bungees to tie the loose end of the chain down so it doesn't flap around and damage things. Others think, mistakenly, that bungees help to tighten chains. They do not. I lose the loose end of the chain by inserting it into the fastener. I'll be chaining up (again) tomorrow. I'll take a photograph of the chain end so you can see easier what I mean. There should be no need to use bungees at all.

If I have too many links I simply take the end one and put the Boomer thru it agains and that stops the chain from hitting the fenders.
Power divider won't hurt if left in, heck, you can at 50 MPH with in locked if you like. Diff lockers are something different as you know. Good on ice or mud, not so good on tight turns. lol
