I agree snowwy. However I have asked and Penske dont want drivers fixing brakes or adjusting anything. Im not a truck mechanic and they were working fine far as I could tell. I will try to look more closely in the future thanks

Don’t know where the idea of a weighted PSP score comes from but it is fictitious. PSP keeps 5 years of crash records and 3 years of inspection records and does not assign any score or points. If a driver or company wants to add violation points and create a score that’s cool, but PSP does not create a score or assign points.

Most rental/leasing companies don’t want you working on their vehicles. On the other hand though they do want you to inspect them and most provide a checklist (You likely should have caught it). I assume from what you stated you were in a vehicle like a Freightliner M2, a two axle vehicle. One brake out of adjustment put you at 25% inoperative and OOS. As a general rule a brake adjustment over by 1/4 inch or more is a (1) violation, while a brake adjustment over by 1/8 inch is a half (1/2) a violation. Example: if your brake was over by 1/8 inch it would have had 1/2 a violation but not OOS on a 4 brake setup (12 1/2%). Since it was over by more than 1/4 inch it’s a full violation and OOS on a four brake rig (25 %).

If you only had 1 out of 10 brakes out of adjustment, that is not grounds for an OOS.

OOS for brakes would be 2 or more. Either the inspector was wrong in issuing the OOS order, or there was more involved with your inspection.

edit: OK, I now see it was a straight truck. One brake would qualify as >20%

I don't worry about the shop or company. They're not the ones that are dealing with the cops. Or quite possibly, an accident.

I'm the one driving. If brakes are out. I adjust.
Saves me from csa and accidents.
