It is a fact that a lot off O/O in the USA don't like the newer trucks.
A lot prefer to run older trucks.

Lets say a O/O buys an older truck for 30 000$.
He spends another 35 000$ on overhauling the truck and improving it.

The O/O is unlucky and 6 months after the overhaul he wrecks it.
    Truck is total loss.
    Cannot be repaired.
There are no other people involved in the accident.

My question is:what will the insurance pay him?
Will they just cover the price he bought it for?
Or will the improvements also be refunded?

I know with cars if you want more then blue book you need an outside appraisal. Dad has value of car insurance on his 1984 and 1986 300 SDL's

All of your receipts will help justify the payout, IF you have the truck insured for the amount you want. I'd simply ask my agent what THEIR policy is. Remember, yourhysical damage insurance is based on a dollar amount you set. If you lowered your policy amount in 08 or 09 and haven't adjusted it back with up with truck prices, they are only going to pay the amou t you chose to insure. On the flip side, you can insure a hunk of junk for 100,000 but they will only pay out fair market value, which is where receipts would help your case. If you only insured that $30,000 truck for $30,000, that's all you'll get, even you dropped another $30,000 on it.

Good case for talking with your agent once in a while and keeping your insurance current with value. I do it not only with my truck, but my home and autos as well.

Forty is 100% correct. My agent spoke with me earlier this year regarding an alert he got from insurers. Many trucks under insured vs. replacement value.

Then followed up on a truck we put over $10k into in the past couple months. We upped the insurance value and made sure we saved receipts if it is totaled. We also had to send an explanation of why the increase of that level on a $20k truck.
