    Howdy all,

I have been looking into becoming a driver and ran across this site today. I am glad I did! It looks like a good place.

I had a career as an archaeologist, but due to the effect of the economy on energy companies, who were our biggest clients,
there became too little work for almost all of us.

I also became ill with a chronic illness which has taken me from being able to compete with the young guys in the field,
to unable to lift 50 lb. That really limits the job prospects. (I realize that takes me out of a lot of trucker jobs, too.)

I need something that will help me support my family, so I am looking into trucking because I love to travel. And I enjoy driving.
I am also a safe driver, so why not?

I am an Aggie, class of '95.
I love dogs, reading, and talk radio.

Have a great day and thanks for "listening"!

    Chinatown Thanks this.

I recommend getting a DOT physical on your own before anything else. If you pass this, then look at options for schooling and companies where you won't be required to lift 50+ lbs.

Check with Millis Transfer. Their school is in Burleson, TX & the pay is good $50K+ annually.

Tanker companies pay good & the hardest work is hooking up a hose. Some may require a heart rate test and squatting & climbing on top of a tanker trailer.

Maybe some other drivers will pitch in with some advice.
