Hello to all you wonderful TTR members! I've lurked here for quite a while but have yet to post anything. The wheels have actually started to turn on my career change so I thought I'd start posting!
I am currently a computer tech for a school district, make good money, have amazing amounts of time off, but absolutely hate what I do. I'm tired of looking at a cubicle all day, as well as work on the same problems over and over again. There is also no advancement in this job, this is my 6th year doing it too. I need to be doing something that brings something different (even a little) everyday, be that what I'm doing or where I'm going. I've been thinking about becoming a driver for years, and now I'm ready to take the steps to get rolling.
I've read threads on this site for almost 3 years now, and I've learned a ton of information. I will be attending school on my own, I don't want to be indentured to any one company. I plan on getting as many endorsements as I can, as I want to be able to pull anything. I'm looking to get into oilfield driving initially and possibly tanker or flatbed. I'm fully aware of the pay I can expect my first year, as well as the time away from home. Those aren't issues for me as my wife has a great paying job and I've worked on the road in the past (Navy deployments and out of state work).
Well, this has turned into a book, hope I didn't put any of you to sleep! Once I get closer to starting school (January most likely) I'll start a follow me through school post. Until then, I'll just keep learning from you all!
Howdy!
