How's Everyone Doing in LTL Right Now?

Oh it’s definitely better and with Mondays off now I can make appointments easier and not have to use PTO to do it. I HAVE found out a lot of my former customers out in Jamestown miss me, apparently the new driver isn’t doing so well as yet. He’ll get better at it though.

 

We just laid off 60 drivers and wharehouse first time in decade I’ve been here

im in SoCal I rather not be too specific because of the doxing whatever that means all my buddies in the other major ltl like Estes saia etc in SoCal said it’s dead for them too

Interesting, wonder how the port traffic is playing into that. Haven't looked into that in a few weeks. Former green gang coworkers said the past week or two have picked up a lot. Nothing crazy but pretty normal. Of course I heard a lot of big terminals might have laid off quite a few guys.

 

My SoCal barn hasn't laid off any guys to my knowledge, even if we are heavily overstaffed. It'd be all over the terminal if they did. And there's no way we lay off 60 guys, that'd actually be too much.

So not actual layoffs? I know when covid hit OD "furloughed" about 40% of their guys based on seniority and bids at the local terminals. Most of the quit after being starved for months.

 

OD didn't furlough 40% of our drivers during covid. My terminal was less than 10 drivers out of 200 and a few of those drivers actually were relocated to other terminals. Where did you come up with 40%?

 

40% at the terminal I was at. At the time approx. 30 drivers between P&D and Line. Half the random clerks were let go, 1 sales guy IIRC. All but one combo guy. 2-3 dock guys.

Not company wide. Most of them weren't fully furloughed I guess you could say. More like they got one run a week or 5-10 hours and quit. Still the same to me. Hell I was down to 20 hours a week many times this past winter.
