Wow, I hate hearing all these horror stories about shoddy shops. How far is he from his delivery? Is it possible to sub out the load to another carrier and maybe salvage some revenue out of the load at least.
Unfortunately it states we can't in the contract. Hes renting a truck Monday morning and taking it. He can get the remaining loads out in Monday, and hopefully a flight home while the dealer fixes our truck.
This is a big shop in florida, one that's very popular. We are in complete shock that for 1, it took 7 weeks to get our truck back then 2000 miles into a trip, and the very thing they fix just grenades. We've been treated very well at the dealer, and he's been sleeping in the lounge. Im in florida at home dealing with the office side. Just very disappointed on how the prior shop treats customers when its something that their tech caused. Mistaken do happen, but I feel they should be atleast willing to help him get into a rental so he can finish this load and get paid. Instead, we're out thousands because they refuse to help. So hoping to file a claim with our local court and get our expenses back. We just want to work hard and carry on.
Totally agree. One of the ways to alleviate the mechanic problem, especially if you are OTR, is by creating your own network. Especially in places that you frequent. You may not know a decent mechanic in BumPhux,USA, but there’s a good chance someone in your network will. Secondly, if husband isn’t mechanically inclined, he needs to take a crash course. I can turn a wrench, but I can’t turn as fast as a mechanic. HOWEVER, since I can and understand how things work, it makes it much more difficult to rip me off. If an owner op isn’t mechanically inclined, a shop is going to jip him out of $1000 every time he pulls into a shop. I don’t need anyone to troubleshoot an issue at a tune of $150/hour.
He can work on engines to an extent but this was a dot inspection and repair to get our authority. It needed alot of work, suspension and motor. The shop is widely known. So not sure what happened. The tech apparently didn't torque the gear bolts and well, it shot them through the system destroying more in its path.
Although it’s easy to see that is the issue, it’s a lot harder to prove in court. I feel for your pain and have been in that situation. Hope it works out for the better.
