First off, there is no such thing as a New Holland forage. The are called forage harvesters or more commonly around here, silage chopper.

They come in self propelled models and pull type models in several different sizes. They also have different cutter heads on them, some fold as to not be as wide to haul.

If it's a self propelled model, you should be able to chain around the axles, if there are no factory tie points. Most newer machines have factory tie down point and would be labeled as such. If it's a pull type, you should be able to chain around the axle and tongue. Either one shouldn't be hard to tie down. It's just basic securement that pretty much goes with any wheeled equipment.

If he wss loading st the New Holland, PA plant, there is a huge binder in the lovby area where he got his paperwork that shows all the securement methods approved by New Holland. If he was getting what I think it is, the machine is securely bolted to a wooden skid/platform. Therefore, all he needed to do was strap the skid to the deck and secure the accessory armature. Easy load, actually.

That is something that America could learn from aus. It is part of getting a cdl. Unfortunately most still don't have a clue lol

A machine secured to timber and only needs straps? Please tell me your joking.

There are loads that you would wreck if you actually strapped the load. Pad mount transformer boxes or generator enclosures are just basically just a flimsy sheet metal box. So to ship them they bolt it to the pallet and then you secure the pallet to the trailer.

In New York State there is what is called a metal coil endorsement, it actually covers all types of securement for all types of freight and is very thorough. I think it should be mandatory for all open deck drivers. You only have to have it if you live in New York and haul coils in NY.

Flimsy sheet metal box is different to an agricultural piece of equipment ........

Not really, in some cases. The cutters we are discussing are basically flimsy outer covers over all the machinery and stuff inside. There really isn't anywhere you can throw the straps to effectively hold the machine down that doesn't also bend and dent and damage the outer shell. Trust me, I tried.

There also isn't anywhere you can effectively chain the machine without damage. Zero securement points, light construction. This ain't your grandaddy's farm equipment fer sure! Today's stuff is built to look pretty for the hobby farmer, not to withstand decades of work and abuse.

How do you suppose those pieces of agricultural equipment are loaded on a ship? The load the whole pallet, they don't have Bob from Pier 21 come down with a Farmall H and pull them one at a time up the gangplank.

So your telling me that the axle isn't strong enough to hold a strap preferably a chain with rubber so not to damage the paint work?
