i'd like to know where he gets the blend, and how he gets the blend. based on temps he's running through. which can be anywhere from 90 in houston to minus 50 in the dakotas. every pump i've been to. only has one pump. and doesn't provide an option for blending.
-
If you're talking about my blending its real simple. If I need to put 100 gallons in and I want a 30% blend I pump 30 gallons of #1 and 70 gallons of #2. Sometimes #1 and #2 are part of the same pump sometimes you have to use two pumps. Basic math.

Btw, reefer fuel has a cetane rating of 44 or 45, which is the cetane rating of LSD, or #1 diesel. #2 diesel, or ULSD has a cetane rating of 40. You guys need to read the dang placards on fuel pumps. This should be common knowledge.

the math may be simple. but how do you determine the percentage based on temps you'll be in. and where do you find these 2 pumps with different blends????? cuz at the truckstop. you've got one pump on each side of truck. and no choice for 1 or 2. you pump what they have.
-
I know at the petro in Fargo as well as the Schatz and Flying J in Minot the have a #1 pump right next to the #2 pump. I believe it was considerably more expensive, around $4.50 a gallon and iirc the pumps had padlocks on them and you had to get an attendant to unlock it.

Look at post #40 from this afternoon. The pump has #1 and #2 with a nozzle for both on both sides of the truck. The station I topped my tanks off at tonight has separate pumps for #1 and #2. Put some #1 in then pull the truck ahead about 10 feet to put #2 in. I did not put any #1 in tonight.
The blend is a rough number not exact. If I was heading south I would put less #1 in. I spent the entire winter in the upper Midwest so I ran roughly a 30% blend.
As far as no choice and pumping what they have that same thing happens around here at the big chains. You have to know where to find #1 which is usually at the smaller mom and pop stops which are the places I seek out.RubberDuck198 Thanks this.
