Are you really saying that #1 Diesel is LSD and #2 is ULSD and that #2 didn't exist before 2006? I think that's what your trying to say. That #2 nomenclature was started in 2006 with the proliferation of ULSD. Is that what you're saying?
Huh ????

Ok were do I start with this one......
I haul fuel in the winter...... So at the oil terminal loading racks all the diesel is " highway grade" a term I've never heard.... The only difference is clear ( taxable on road use). Or red dye injected as you load( non taxable off road).
Some loading racks have ( premium option) which is usually Kero added in the winter months and cetain also added year round.
Also if you look at the tank lay out of whatever station you're talking about you might see that many of them feed both sets of (diesel) pumps rv, car or truck diesel off the same tank.....
The tax deal I don't think is right either..... All on road ulsd is taxed the same fed and (appropriate state tax)......this is billed to the load before it even leaves the oil terminal ...
P.S. #1 ulsd is basically Kero . The only product at the racks that aren't uls is #2 oil (home heating oil)Last edited: Mar 29, 2014

The red fuel is off road diesel. For use in off road vehicles, farm tractors etc. There is no highway use tax on it. It is #2 diesel that is dyed red and is illegal for highway use.
The fuel at the pumps for pickups etc. is the same fuel as we use in the big rigs. It also has the same tax included in the price.
The reason they charge us more is because they can. Simple as that.
I have a farm tractor and I used to be in the sawmill and logging business. The red dyed fuel was what I used in my off road equipment. It has some taxes on it as well but not the highway use tax that regular diesel has included in the price. -
danny and cluck nobody could have said it any better.
Cluck Cluck Thanks this. -
I think old rubber duck has off road diesel and #1 totally confused, either that or he is just simply confused on everything. which he is when it comes to dieselHammer166 Thanks this.
