" To answer the question, 102 is rail to rail. If it can fit inside the rails it's legal. On the "ancient" trailers, most are only 96 wide, so if you have a load that's 98 wide, it's oversize and would need permits, but not if you're 102, since it fits inside the trailer. "

102" is legal in a 96" trailer.Diesel Dave, RustyBolt and Klleetrucking Thank this.

Huh? A 98" wide load is oversized and I guess would follow over sized laws?
That makes zero sense.LGarrison and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
As JD4020 said 102 is legal whether on a 96 with overhang or not. Hell I've got an old 90 inch trailer and load 102 wide all the time.Klleetrucking Thanks this.

Haul hand is right. Your not oversize and don't need permits till your over 102".
LindaPV and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
Thanks everyone!

I have had a load flushed on one side and 6" on the other side equaling to 102". No permit. Still legal.
johndeere4020 and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
Yep.
Call me what you will but, I brought this post out of the Mercer thread just to bring attention.
This inaccurate "information" has got to stop.
It's OK if you don't know, just indicate so. -
People don't admit they don't know. They also don't keep their mouth shut when they don't know. Wish they would.blairandgretchen, Klleetrucking and PeteyFixAll Thank this.

Go by the old saying,"keep it simple stupid" 102 is the magic number. Anything over that is oversize PERIOD!
