Well, when I left off I was to go in and load and then see what conditions were. Before I left the house WC was still saying onshiore at Charleston area. Of course that changed while I was at BASF so when I arrived at the yard dispatch is all gung ho for the load to deliver. Wasn't too happy about that. So I start out the yard and *poof* my turbo goes south. Mad scramble to get another truck..... brake system is shot.:biggrin_25524: Soooo, I wind up in one of the '11 Macks. Oh the thrill.:biggrin_25523:

Anyhow I got to the customer, a combination paper mill/chemical plant on the bank of the Cooper river an hour early. But so did half the trucks in the freakin' country it seems. So here I sit in the lineup, sun shining but increasing clouds flying in overhead. Guy comes out and tells me they're doing maintenance right where I'm to unload so don't know when they'll get to me. OY!!! Short time later I get a call from "customer service" at our office.... customer called wanting to know where I am????? OFFICE PEOPLE!!!! They never heard of a window????

Anyhow, wind is picking up and I note that I am basically surrounded by scrap wood pallets, discarded sheet metal, all kinds of loose crap. Great, windburst and I get sliced and diced. I don't wanna die in a MACK!!!:biggrin_2557:

Suddenly it gets real black and it's pouring rain.... sideways. I hear a big thump and it's..... snowing???? Wierd ### storm we got here. Just as sudden it stops and two near naked seagulls slide down onto my hood and start gathering up their feathers. Fortunately, I had 2 rolls of black tape and a tube of crazy glue aboard so was able to help em out while I finally got unloaded. Gave em a lift inland up I 26 to Columbia. Last I saw they was limping into town to stay the weekend with some ducks they knew.:biggrin_25525:

Apparently I got out of Charleston just before the tide came in and things started flooding.

So I MACKed my way home and here I is.:biggrin_255:

Nuts, posted on wifey's icons... this is Kittyfoot!!! LOL!!!!

Glad to hear you made it out unscathed, Kittyfoot. Right neighborly of you to help the naked birds get out of harm's way.

My brother in VA finally called. He's without power. He had one of them metal carports over his Airstream. The wind picked it up and flipped it on top of his shed. The front and sides of his house are brick and the back is vinyl. The hurricane ripped the vinyl off. It uprooted some trees too.

Other than that, they are okay. He said he would send me some pics, but hasn't yet. I guess he can't until he gets power back?

Not that i want to pick an argument with you brother i half agree with that statement the part i don't agree with is if there weren't 100mph winds there would be no branches falling on people so those people would not have been hurt in the first place.

Well not much happened here. One of the neighbors potted plants flew off the balcony. (mine were all secured, heh heh desk jockeys don't understand "load securement":biggrin_25522:)

Funny thing was, for whatever reason I never bought any breakfast supplies. So about 10 am I go around the neighborhood looking for some bagels and creamcheese. Mmmmm.

Well I don't know why I expected anything to be open, what with the "storm of the century" and all. But the local bagel shop was open, problem was they'd lost power overnight and had no refrigeration so they had bagels but no creamcheese. (I kinda felt guilty about them even bothering to be open so I paid "resturant prices" for 3 takeout bagles, and I tiped!)

Well two of the local 24/7 convienence stores were closed. (really starting to feel stupid here) One for power and one for a tree in the driveway. But the 3rd one I went to was open,,,, but no creamcheese.

So I went to the super market. 1st one was closed, but the 2nd one had creamcheese AND LOX!!! :tongue8:

So I picked up some coffee and cashed out. Most people in the store were still buying water/eggs and milk, so here comes this cowboy in the red convertable buying lox, coffee and creamcheese. I think I got more than a few dirty looks. hahhaahah.

Hey BTW if there's a PA based JB hunt driver with a Home Depot account on this board I was two people behind you at the bagel shop. (over heard you talking to that lady, just didn't want to interrupt.)

Most Washington / Baltimore forecasters thought that the damage area would be Ocean City, MD and the Delaware beaches. Turns out that the St. Mary''s County, Maryland in the southern part of the state had a worse time of it.

Also, some "man on the street" interviewees and media talking heads are saying that Mayor Bloomberg overreacted with his New York City hurricane preparation plans. In that respect, what would they be saying if he did little or nothing to prepare NYC and numbers of people were killed? After the 1938 New England hurricane, I think he made the right calls.

I evacuated to an area further to the west but still kept emergency supplies with me. I have an AM/FM/weather band emergency radio but it needs D batteries. I went to four places but found no batteries. The power did go off but no structural or property damage and no phone calls from neighbors. I had two good flashlights and plenty of batteries for those. I bought food along the way but did not have the need to eat most of it.

If the "Jersey Shore" MTV television show production base of Seaside Heights, New Jersey has been damaged and Jennifer "JWow" Farley needs a place to stay ... have her contact me !

I think this was the first death in Maryland ...
