I've gone thru what was called a cat 3 once ......the hell it was ....it was a full blown cat four that was a very scary place to be as a kid we lived on the top of St.Thomas about 1490 feet up and we had a south east exposure and could see to the west a bit too...that sucker came up thru the chute between St.Thomas and St.Croix the "house " we lived in at that time was a circa 1950's trailer, it was anchored but we felt the trailer lifiting off the pad
Ithink I was 12 or 13. SInce then I have weathered quite a few different storms of various degrees.......I don't fear them but I do RESPECT them deeply
Hurricane Earl...

I've never faced a full on Cane.. the closest I have come is a leftover remnant low... in a place where there was no preparation, and the people were completely inexperienced...
-
That is the scariest place to be wether it is a full on cane or even a severe thunderstorm
-
You're telling me! I have seen thunderstorms rip through here, and take lives, when if the storm were in the midwest.. the folks would be prepared and be going "Oh, look at the pretty lightening!" from the safety of a storm shelter!! Did you know that if they actually bothered to activate a Tornado Warning here on the Valley floor, no-one would no what to do? And worse, those of us who do know, would have no place to go to?? THERE ARE NO STORM SHELTERS HERE!! And very very few basements!
-
Yeah that definitely sounds like a Storm Stories show waiting to happen
-
It is. All it would take would be one good storm.. and in all truth, we have seen it happen. last May a severe thunderstorm ripped through here from the south east, running completely opposite from the norm.. and let me tell you, it through off some zingers! We had what I KNOW was a tornado run from Porterville, up past Exeter and Farmersville, and right through downtown... for here, that is a #### good run. NWS Hanford insists it was straight line winds. Sorry, but I know a twister, and twister damage when I see it.. 3 people died in that storm.

Yeah sometime the "experts" are so wrong and sometimes it costs people their lives because they are too trusting in these people
