I'm not sure how much more/less a 04 379 SH would weigh compared to a 97-99 EXHD, but with half tanks (2x 120gal), I scale empty with a 48' all-steel tri-axle trailer around 31,000-31,500. And I've got the C-15 as well. It's a surprisingly light truck.

Not specific to heavy haul-more fuel capacity means less time stamps on fuel reciepts to match up for dot audits. Also when you find a place that's has fuel that has a significantly lower price you can buy a bunch.
Those are reasons I've heard.
Idgaf about any of that. Just giving an example of why a fella might want bigger tanks.
When I do mine over I'll have 2x 80 gallon (or so) tanks vs the 2x 150 gallon ones I have on there now.cnsper Thanks this. -
Also @Hurst regarding selling a truck for what you think it's worth: I think most any of us are in that boat lol on a good day I expect I could get $45K+/- for Bessie while I have easily 2x that wrapped up in her.
Truck makes the money, isn't ever gonna be worth the money IMO lol
Just gotta try n take the smallest hit you can accept on the sale price.
I can't wait to redo Bessie
Lol aka dump another $35k into her.Hurst and Dye Guardian Thank this. -
I like being able to go 2 days with out refueling. Also comes in handy when out in the middle of no where.
Plus.. I can easily cut back to 1/2 tank and knock 1000 lbs off my gross weight.
Just a preference I guess. Part of my better to have and not need, than to need and not have mentality.
Hursttsavory, macavoy and Dye Guardian Thank this. -
Kind of like my old saying for going out on the boat.
Not once have I come home at the end of a trip or a day and said "dang we brought too much beer, ice, and fuel". -
I have $50 - $60k easily in mine all said and done. I am finally ahead of mine regarding repairs and maintenance. 99% of the bugs are worked out. Gets an honest 6mpg, pulls most hills with ease. The only thing I would change.. if the tranny ever craps out, I'll replace it with a 13/18 speed.
Sadly the market value of my truck with 1.3 million miles puts it somewhere in the $15k - $18k range. I personally will put a driver in it before I took less than $20k for it.
I'd rather work out a deal with someone looking to break into being an O/O. $10k down, $1000 month with a $22k pay off. They sign a lease with my carrier, pull my trailer for free with the agreement they they cover all maintenance and repairs. I think thats a pretty fair deal. At pay off I take my trailer back. They either buy one of their own or lease one from my carrier.. or move on make their own deal somewhere else.

I hear you on the preference. As far as being in the middle of nowhere, I run Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota mainly. Can't get any further tant that except Alaska or Canada. Maybe Australia and Russia too.Hurst Thanks this.

I'm hoping to put a 379 together with an all aluminum step and scale under 33k lbs. Thats the plan anyway.
All I know for certain is that I'm not going on elogs if there is a way to avoid it. I value my sleep too much..and I have very erratic sleep patterns that would make conforming to elogs and legal HOS a miserable existence for me.
So its not because I want to run illegal or be a rebel. Nothing like that at all. I like to sleep when I am tired. And then drive when I am not.
Plus I think a 379 long nose Pete (W900 is a very close 2nd) is probably the sexiest truck ever made. 30 yrs from now I beleive there will still be O/O's running them. They are like an old pair of Levi jeans. They will never go out of style.

Like a fine wine, just gets sweeter with time. Am I right?
