Just take it one day at a time. I am out here and I have four kids I have custody of right now. And have had custody for five years. I owned my own business for 17 years and lost it due to the economy.
had to have my sister take two of the kids and my mom the other two while I come out here and try to get my finances straight again.
Lost my home, my dodge ram and just about everything I own. So basically starting over. I have been trying to just make some decent money to save and it has been real hard hear lately because of lack of miles for some odd reason once I moved up the pay scale.
looking forward to the day when I can get back home for good with the kids so I understand what you are going through. Just hang in there and tell your husband to stay positive and you guys will be back together again real soon.UGA79 Thanks this. -
I three little boys at home and a wife. They think I am the coolest dad in one breath and in the other when is dad coming home. I had a high paying union job that after the economy tanked I lost my job after12 years. Couldn't get any job because they weree afraid as soon as union called I would leave. I would say 3 days a week my wife curses my name for leaving her alone. And the other times thankful I found a career that pays the bills. it will lead to something else. Why I love truck driving its not more important than being home for my wife and kids. I will eventually find a local job. Actually my wife filled out 2 applications this week for local jobs just takes right place right time. Hang in there and try to remember its hard on us too.

I guess us wives do tend to forget that you husbands are missing us just as much (or more?) than we're missing you.
If someone calls you for a job interview, and they are a local company, how would you go? That's something that me and hubby have been trying to figure out. -
You can extend your hometime well for me because I am home weekly. When he is training it will be hard unless his trainer is cool. My trainer did whatever he could to get me done by a certain date. My wife was running a marathon and I would not miss it. I jokenly said it to my dm when I went solo and he swept me under the rug for a week. That ment I didn't receive a truck right away a,d might had to wait but I did it anyway. Generally your dm will work with you. My dm knows my situation so I would probably just tell him or schedule on hometime. I have had it work out that I needed to be home on a wed afternoon for some bank papers and swift routed me in the area and my dm let me go home for the afternoon as long as I was ready for delivery. Most people at swift are human and can smypathize and other times they just can't help you. If no freight is moving to your home area you don't go home. Like me for example I am in exas right now and my hometime in wisconsin is for sunday. I haven't seen a preplan yet that is getting me home. As most people can attest on this forum the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I bugged then for a dedicated route with hometime and they gave me a shot and I ran with it. They will either give in and help you out or get tired of you bugging them either way works I have found. I think I babbled enough.

There are so many drivers in the same situation....lost their job due to the economy and can't find another one because, well......there just aren't that many of them!!!!!
DH is otr and it's a blessing and a curse...I hate it that he has to be gone from home and away from us, we have two little boys, but it pays the bills for now....sorta. And yes, he misses us too....he's the one who is sleeping/eating/living in a basically a closet with wheels.
LOL! I look for local jobs and fill out apps for my hubby too while he is out on the road.

Aint this the truth, almost everyone I went to school with had a story like this. Until we figure out unless we make things in this country we will have no economy to speak of I sadly don't see this changing. There is no such thing as a service economy unless you count people who have lots of money being serviced by those who have none.
