I hauled some and listen to the operators some.
Yes they are tight lipped about the workings and dealings of the units. Buddy of mine is at Barnhart Crane in Memphis na dhe pulls them on a draw bar set up with the counter weights stacked.
He says it's a different type of trucking..
I know they train their guys on the running of the platform units, but only a select crew..

Is this what you were thinking?

Aspen trailers are making platform trailers now as well. I know nothing about them, but I believe they make very good lowboys. I have sure been happy with mine anyway.

Thanks Oxbow. I had no idea Aspen made them. I checked out their website and contacted them for more info.

I've got some old Talbert literature that shows that they at least made a few but I've seen nothing on their website about them or can even find any info on the net.

What is your Aspen? All had a few 55 ton Aspens in Pittsburgh and those drivers swore by them. I personally never got to pull one.

When I was with ATS they had a couple of Aspens. I liked them, but they were getting to the point of being rode hard and put away wet. So they sold them.. Guess who happened to buy one?
Yep the guy I'm pulling for now. I pulled it one trip and said look I see you have re strapped the long neck and deck, but I think she needs new walking beam bushings. likes to sway side to side.
    The trl. not the tracking

Mine is a 1996 50 ton, 48', 22' deck, 3 axle with 5' axle spacing, air ride. It has a 12' neck, and two king pin settings @14 and 36".
I am not sure what it weighs, but my light weight with a 1989 378, RTOF 15618, DT 461P 2 speed rears is about 41,000.

The short deck wouldn't work well for most, but as a contractor that hauls in and out of jobsites, and on Forest Service roads, it is pretty handy. The most I have had on it is a 336 and a fully dressed D8T.We had to re-weld the dogs on the height adjustment, but other than that it has been great.

I'm actually looking at a 2000 aspen 65 ton 3+2. I've had a couple oilfield lowboys and loved them so it's good to hear other guys like them as well.
