I see this is in regard to another Cummins not performing the way it should. Kinda starting to look like a trend, yes?
As i told rolling coal, don't blame the technology, blame the engine manufacturer that obviously can't seem to figure it out.
Glad to hear the delete made it run correctly.
hypothetically speaking....bypassing new emmissions

As I said, I have a pretty good idea but I do see your point. What you wrote down below proves that.
When you put it like this, it makes sense. Well, regardless how much sense it makes, especially in those above conditions, its still illegal.
If It's Cummins we're talking about, I got no argument.
I never said cat doesn't know how to build an engine, they probly just figured they would stick to applications that didn't have such stringent EPA regulations to satisfy.
It's ALWAYS been a big deal! You may not hear about it that much but people get busted all the time for tampering with emissions systems, copyright infringement, running overweight and yes, pissing in public.
Read the warnings on DVDs and cds. Yes, there at people that get busted and have to pay up to 250-500,000 dollar fines and or spend about a decade in prison when they get caught.
Did you not hear about the people that got sued by the RIAA after the p2p file sharing for music and video was at It's peak?
Now, maybe a lot of this stuff is very easy to get away with which is probably why the fines and consequences are so ungodly high when they do catch somebody.
Lol..... All I would have to do is crawl under it and look up. If the DPF housing isn't there and....I know its sposed to be there, that's all I would need to see... Unless It's a bluetec motor running urea. I know not all trucks have a DPF and a def tank.
Plus, if it did have the DPF housing in place, all I'd have to do is pull the end cap off. If I saw empty space, I would need to look no further.
That's a good question. As I've said many times, I really don't care what you guys do. It's none of my business.
Lol, me too.
Lol..... I'm hardly worried about it. I am just glad we could agree on something, even if it is agreeing to disagree. -
Hey corneileous, Detroits have the same issues it's just that MOST owner operators don't want a POS truck with a Detroit. You can't get a Paccar product with a driptroit and if you read most of the threads regarding this issue most are O/O's. I don't know any O/O that are just peeing down they're leg with excitement at the thought of getting a brand new Cascadia with a gutless driptroit!

You've probably heard about 5 people out of tens of millions who have downloaded music or copied movies. The same number of people worried about that are the same number of people worried about being abducted by aliens. You have better odds at winning the lottery.
I though I told you no one cares whether it's legal or not but you just can't resist can you?
The last part is extremely funny since that's basically all you keep saying.
Again you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what your talking about. You can crawl around all you want. The DPF housing is there and all the sensors are still hooked up. The DEF tank is still there and I can even leave DEF in it if I choose to. You are so clueless on this issue it's amazing you still choose to post here. I CAN remove all the stuff if I choose to, or I can just make it inoperable. You think you can walk up to a truck engine in and tell if an EGR valve was welded shut? You can tell by looking at a DPF mounted on a truck that the insides are intact? You can tell by looking at a DEF tank that the engine is actually using it? If so I think you are WAY over qualified to be driving that truck. -
You guys don't have to worry, the EPA is atleast 14 years and counting behind on all the illegal motor modifications.....LOL.
I'll let you all know when they catch up to me and you can start planning your getaway....!Magnum1 Thanks this. -
You had better shut up. Corneileous is going to read you the riot act if you tell him your even thought about turning those screws on that pump. Apparently you didn't get the memo that doing that is.....Illegal, against the law, breaking the rules, tampering with ####e you shouldn't be messing with, breaking the law, it's a felony not, to mention just plain wrong!

Actually you've got nothing to worry about since unless they come to your couch, they're not going to find you!

It's ok Corneileous, at least someone is happy for you.

07-379Pete, Magnum1 and Les2 Thank this. -
All you have to do is tap on the dpf to tell if the material has been removed. It will give you a different tone when you remove the material from the inside.

I've worked more than you this week... Besides, you need to look at your location......
Too late for the screws....

One of the joys of the new emissions is an added maintenance requirement.
At 250K miles, the DPF is supposed to be removed and cleaned. See, it fills with soot as it burns other particulate matter. If that soot isn't removed periodically, the filter will become clogged and the motor will begin to derate.
I noticed a big improvement in both power and fuel economy after getting my filter pulled and cleaned. I just couldn't stand the idea of using someone else's cleaned filter, so I went to a shop that does it on site. I know exactly what's been run through my filter. No telling how much low sulfer diesel (as opposed to ULSD) and coolant has been run through that used filter. It took a few hours to blow the filter out and was done for the same price as that used filter you have no idea where it's been.
Again: Cleaning the DPF is a periodic maintenance function. It is not a failure. Unless you're like Cornelius and don't know how to properly maintain your truck. (Did you know there's a filter on the side of the crank case that can cause problems too? It's supposed to be changed every 100K miles.)
If you want to run a new engine as it comes from the manufacturer, good for you. But learn how to properly maintain it.
Some guys prefer to not fool with any of it and delete the entire system. If that's what they want to do, well, it's their truck, their motor, their choice and their business.
I've been waiting to see raw numbers to judge improvement for myself before I evaluate the advantages and disadvantages. The only "after" report I've seen is someone who immediately noticed a change in turbo action. And I haven't heard another peep about it from that individual. He had only run the truck around the yard for a few minutes because he was going on vacation. Of course that was lost when the thread was hijacked by someone who was opposed to people doing what they wanted with their own property.
Me? I'm still interested in the results and final conclusion. -
First off, I never said Detroits were perfect and flawless by any means.
What the purpose in proving the obvious?? Nothing is perfect.
Second, I don't give a flying fart what you read on these forums. If you spend enough time "over the road" like i do, you'll see plenty of trucks like mine that are driven by owner operators. Not everybody prefers them long-nose, diesel-guzzl'n cinder blocks.
Really? Hmm. That's news to me, I thought you special order a truck with any motor you wanted but ok, you, the expert and "most" of the owner ops in this forum have supposedly spoken so guess so.
LOL!.... OMFG man, yer somethin else, I tell ya.....
Quite frankly, I don't know of ANY person that have ever peed down their leg in that much excitement over any truck!
As usual, my point just flew right over the top of your head, didn't it?
The rarity of how often people get busted by stuff like this has nothing to do with it. The fact still remains that it happens. If you wish to continue arguing this, go do it with somebody else.
Yes, you are correct, hell, to add to it, you probly have a better chance being struck by lightning, but, there is that chance. You keep making it sound like it'll never happen.
You did. Many times, as a matter of fact but, no matter how many times i say I don't give rats furry butt, you still act like I do! Isn't it amazing how you keep doing that??
I ain't the only one guilty of it.
Again, I see everything I said flew right over, huh..... Utterly amazing.
I don't have to look at your EGR valve. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Nope, just little thing called "common sense"...... You should try acquiring some.Last edited: Oct 21, 2011

When Daimler, who owns Freightliner, bought Detroit Diesel in....2008?...Detroits came to be optional only in Freightliners. Something about competition or some such. I don't know whether that is still the case, but I haven't seen a Detroit in anything but Freightliner since then. Unless it was put in aftermarket.
Quit acting like a
