See I think a lot of truckers are introverts and that’s why we’re alwasy quiet and minding our own at trucks stops, at least from what I see. Can you imagine if we were this open and helpful in person haha
KillingTime Thanks this. -
but mainly wake up and think about getting to the destination and make money, dont try to stop unless you have to and try to be positive and at least we get to be in different places as our work place. for every job out there, you will have this same feeling, but you either enjoy what you are doing or not, all up to you
DevJohnson Thanks this. -
Daydreaming has kept me going for 30 years so far lol. I also love music of varying types and find it can really change your mood however, after running a certain amount of hours straight I'll just turn the music off completely. It almost becomes a blur after a while and I lose the urge to listen to anything. Sometimes a little silence is a good thing. I'll crank some tunes for a while, shut them off, talk to myself, back to music, talk to myself, and on and on and on.
I've had quite the conversation or two alone, it's interesting.
That's always a fun past time.KillingTime and nax Thank this. -
Few truer words were ever said.
Re: Comfort w. the job and it's hard parts (docking, backing, parking, reading traffic in a strange land, navigating in general) - new drivers typically burn out in 2 years.... get thru that and you'll find your zone. Preplan / trip the #### out of everything strange. Pay attention in the Metro-areas. Drive defensively 99% of the time, and aggressively 1% of the time (in some places you just have to be a bully.... aggressive; not reckless).
It's stressful.... it's not unskilled labor, like the Unemployment Office would make everyone think.... Hang in there, bud. Keep yourself as clean as you can (small things will happen.... you'll get a backing incident somewhere, sometime, somehow... anyone says they haven't had one is probably lying to you... Hell, I knocked my own bumper off in an OH dropyard.... Lol) and a local move when you're done doing time, will be easy-peasy.frizzbees and DevJohnson Thank this. -
Picked up quite a bit of German when I was younger, then forgot most of it. You can attend a language emersion program in a country that speaks the language you want to learn for a decent price. In Germany the Goerthe Institute will take you on for 3 months teach you during the day, then at night you go out into the city and use what you learned. I thinks it's like 3000-4000 USD. A room, 2 meal per day and classes daily. It sounds fun. Been thinking about doing it when im in between driving jobs. Been saving a lot.
I checked there are similar programs all over. Jordan has a nice Emerson school for Arabic. Took obe semester of that... It was.. Hard. Lol -
Opera Singing Truck Driver
Watch this and then try it yourself. Do it with the CB radio on channel 19.
Park in a truck stop & close all the curtains, then practice singing opera over channel 19.DevJohnson, TravR1 and KillingTime Thank this. -
But it keeps you awake all night too because they won't shut up when you tell them to.driverdriver, 06driver and KillingTime Thank this.

I keep to myself and avoid contact with others at truckstops mainly because the vast majority of truckers I have interacted at truckstops are full of BS and seem to relish spreading that BS.
I keep my head down, no eye contact and just walk as quickly to and from my truck as possible. -
On the plus side..... you never lose an argument you have with yourself.
driverdriver Thanks this.
