What's I-17 S from Flagstaff to Phoenix like for a big truck? I'll be near 80k, truck is new condition, with good jake brake. Tanker.

I've run it once before with 53ft dry van 20 years ago but I don't remember anything but the beautiful night sky.

    Nashville to Phoenix
    I-40 to I-17 south
    or
    I-40, I-30, I-20, I-10.

Just watch the down grade on 17, other than that it is the way I would go. Neat road to travel. Google shows it is 44 miles shorter than 40 30 20 10.

It's a tough section of road, either direction (between Phoenix and Flagstaff) you'll burn a lot of fuel, especially north bound. South bound has a long grade that gets a lot of truckers in trouble. It has a few steps to it, but one of the down grades is pretty long at 6%

Its easy downhill for a lil bit, then flattens out, then steep fpr a lil, and flattens out, then it gets steep and windy. Climb a hill and steep and windy again.

Nothing the engine brake can't deal with. Floridians that only use the service breaks will run into issues. :)

I don't think it goes over 6% so it's akin to the windy lower part of Donner or mid part of Cabbage at the worst.

Plan on going right through with no stops. Fuel, parking, and meal stops for trucks are limited.

From Holbrook to Payson and Phoenix is really not that bad a drive, either (even heavy) if you want to get off the beaten path for a bit. If you need to be on the east side of PHX like Mesa, this might even be preferred.

And deal with DFW and Midland/Odessa and El Paso? If he can hit those areas outside of peak traffic periods I might agree with you.

It might be a few miles further. But I think it would be quicker going 10. A lot less pulls. Especially if he's 80,000

I’d rather take a beating then run through the Permian Basin area and deal with all that crap. Don’t plan on stopping anywhere between Sweetwater and Toyah and you’ll be doing yourself a favor.
