I always getta kick outta these posts--and of course inevitably the supertruckers come outta the woodwork....and while there is no question that those who live and work in the mountainous snowy regions become a lil better versed at handling bad wx condtions...and there are more drivers(and more trfx)on 80 than 25...the real answer why you arent seeing drivers in the ditch--is because you almost NEVER see a driver in the ditch...cuz they have more sence than to be out there when it is that bad.....course I don't have a clue...as I enter my 42d winter out here....;)

Yeah, I find myself not being the "hero" more and more often/earlier as I get older. Load a day late? Pfffttt, I just spent the weekend in a terminal getting a PM done, and nobody but me seemed to give a rat's ###. So if I park it for a day in bad weather, I don't worry too much.

Also, the company I drive for will always back the driver's decision, just keep them informed.

High wind direction and highway orientation is definitely a factor in many situations where heavy snow accumulations get blown about. I don't think that is the scenario the OP is talking about but notice the road conditions of N/S roads vs E/W roads when the wind is 35 MPH from the west. And also look at where there are wind breaks to reduce lateral blown snow accumulation.

Out there, the winds tend to.be more northerly or southerly, in Iowa, the north south roads get crosswinds, too. I 35 gets closed more than 80.
Ground blizzards, or a true whiteout, isn't something to take lightly, they are very dangerous.

Depending on the area of 80, I would rather run 80 through Wyo. in the wind then I would 25.
