Not quite true...Columbus wasn't supposed to return because the world was flat, yet he found land on the other side.
It is strange, though, that a ship can sail from China across the Pacific, through the Panama canal and on across the Atlantic, around the bottom of Africa and, after circumnavigating a few islands, end up back in China.

Not sure if the trip would run deisul or widdershins or, if we believe those gods darned scientists, they really went around the center of a sphere.

If we only live a two dimensional existence, that could be why some people seem so shallow.

 

Not sure how many, if any, will recognize this reference. Being a huge sci-fi/fantasy buff, I felt obliged to post it.

But Columbus knew we're on a globe. He just didn't know how big it is. He was looking for a shorter route to the far East, not trying to prove the world is round...

so driving into work and the truck on the left flew by me in the right lane. Then proceeded to zig zag in and out of traffic on 92 off of I-4 in Tampa. Drivers driving like 4 wheelers is a recipe for a pile up.
