If that's what you want, go the community college route and get the CDL on your own. There are many, many opportunities for someone with a clean CDL. Many only require a class B ( or whatever your state calls it?) but it's just as easy to get the real one. The school might be able to help you find a job that fits your lifestyle. That would be better than some company talking you into theirs.

    sksimpson Thanks this.

how long does it usually take for a company to contact you?
i have filled out apps., emailed companies, schools, colleges, and even the state workforce board of opps. i have gotten very few replys and all saying the same thing "we can help you". does any body here have like a cdl book or online site that maybe i can study and maybe try to do on my own? not real sure what step to take now.

That's the one I used for practice. Only a few questions were different on the real test.

Check the 'About To Get Permit' thread I just bumped to the top of the page. If it's not perfectly clear, go ahead and ask more questions.

You go to the school ,preferably a good community college for 8 weeks or so that has a lot of local trucking outfits dropping by to check out the grads. They'll tell you how to register and any entrance requirements and they'll have the trucks. They may go over the requirements for the learners permit the first week or just expect you to do that yourself. I'm gonna look up that school near you and see if they say anything about their program.

I tried to get to their site but it must be down. I'd just go down to the admissions office and have them explain everything to you. Evidently, Ivy Tech is your main community college system in Indiana ,so if they don't have trucking in Fort Wayne, it's probably near by. If they have it there, ask if you can go back and talk to the instructor and look around.
