Dumb and dumber?
Does that mean I have to be on a truck with another student? I mean I can't really see myself trusting someone who has the same skill as I while I sleep. How long does that last for?
I am starting Dec 30th.

Don't get the wrong impression about the slang used for trainee/trainee otr training. My trainer was unhappy that when he went through, they didn't have trainee/trainee phase.
Try to go with a classmate. And when otr with your trainer, try to learn every aspect of the job. That way, when paired with a classmate, you can be the strong driver.
You will learn what another student learned. Maybe you can use what he learned when with his trainer, maybe you will reject it. Take the best he may have to offer and find something that will work for you.
This phase lasts for three weeks. To complete this phase, you must spend 21 consecutive days onboard your tractor with your fellow trainee. (By the way, those 5 week and 3 week hitches fly by). And you must complete 7500 miles.
I have classmates starting week 4, still less than 7500 miles.
I have spent most of my adult life in the military, protecting the 50 states. In the 8 weeks of otr training, I have seen 48 of them. ( for the first time). So far, this job is a blast. (dating myself there).

The T & T truck must be shut down for 8 hours every night, so even if you can't sleep while the other guy is driving(like me) you can still get your rest.

Will we still get the $350 a week deal or will it turn into a team driving pay scale?
Also, is it difficult to sleep because of the reefer mechanism on the trailer? -
You will get to where you don't even notice the reefer.Last edited: Dec 29, 2012

Yea sorry on the Hunt's Point mess up. I knew it just tired. Another thing don't call it dumb and dumber around Randall. And as KMac says the skills are just to see where you stand. You only do 4 of them and they are picked by David or whomever is on the hill if you are delayed do to med hold. Don't sweet it and enjoy and learn. Use the trainers knowledge to help you fix any areas you have a problem in. Oh hitting some of the trucks is expected but frowned upon. You will see which ones are hittable so to speak. Don't get frustrated, relax and GOAL to avoid hitting anything if possible. Oh have fun and learn something new.

How patient are the trainers there? I know at the CDL school I went to, some were patient, some were like omg when is this guy going to get it ?!??!?!!
-
They seem pretty patient to me. They want you to succeed since they need drivers and you cost them money already. Unless you are a complete screw-up I don't see any issues. Just let them instruct you and follow direction and learn from your errors.
