Roehl had a problem with me being a homemaker, and having no employment history for the last 3 years. Werner (on the bottom of my list of companies I want) required me to send in my last year taxes to verify there was money coming into the household, and I got a pre-hire letter.
I'm sad about Roehl. They were the ones I really wanted.
I am worried

also, 2008 was a year when many people lost their jobs. i was at conway freight at the time, they got rid of 1500 of us all at one time.
we were "economically terminated"
i see some talk of "refresher course", why/when does a driver need that? thanks -
There are currently several states implementing laws where a potential employer can be sued if he denies work to someone, who is otherwise qualified, on the grounds of discrimination.
When I was on the phone with a recruiter, and this being the first time I was told that I was on UE for too long, I was astonished!
I was asking the guy WHY that policy was in effect, especially considering the numbers of people on UE, the Gov. etc etc encouraging people to get back to work, then you have a company tell you that you cannot be hired for this! lol - absurd. Especially if you just came out of trucking school on your own dime.
Anyways, I found a local company where I'm hauling cement/fracking sand. I got rather dirty today when the place that I was unloading at decided to skimp on a hose and attempt a duct tape fix and ended up spewing cement all over and several start/stop processes later, was driving again.
But it's not so badDrive about 3 hours or so and you have a nice little hour/hour half break between the trips.
I actually rather enjoy it.
good luck to ya -

Well, I officially started CDL school today and I may start a thread basically blogging my experience if I feel up to it. I learned how to do a paper driver's log today and we started on pre-trip inspections as well as all the hours of service stuff. From reading these forums and a few YouTube videos I pretty much had a grasp of all that anyway. I got a application and brochure from USXpress. I'm looking into them, Watkins Sheperd and Schneider right now. I also like what I read about TMC, McElroy and BTC. My first goal is to get the CDL and focus on that. We have physicals and a recruiter tomorrow and I'm looking forward to getting in that truck but that will be next week.
Gears Thanks this.
